Update from the House of Snus Laboratory

I got a couple orders in. My stash is almost complete. I'm only putting in two more orders pre-PACT. A relatively small one on the 29th and a more significant one on June 15th.

In a funny twist - simultaneous orders from Northerner and GetSnus, one from Sweden (Post) and one from the US (UPS) arrived on the same day. Our postal system seems pretty efficient.

So, as part of the order I received several SnusX flavorings.

First, there is 8 ml in the bottles. The bottles look larger and they are, but as advertised, there is only 8 ml of "Snusarom".

    I got:
Vanilla - Very nice aroma! Very familiar, but I can't place it right now. Sweet, very vanilla, slightly alcoholic smell. Maybe a bit oily.
Spearmint - Also very nice - total "Double mint" gum smell.
Coffee - Robust smell, maybe not as nice as the one from Whole Foods, but a nice one. Seems more like an oil then an extract.
Cherry - or Korsbar (with the double dot things on the vowels) - Nice, strong maraschino cherry smell - so yea, cherry + alcohol.

I found it a bit interesting that the coffee and the vanilla were both a bit oily IMO (like wd40 almost - although obviously with a different smell). This makes me think I should maybe try some oils (http://www.faeriesfinest.com/essential-oils.html or maybe Whole Foods again) and then mix them with everclear like justintempler had mentioned on one of the threads. (http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...t-recipes-quot)

The other two seemed more like extracts.

I also started storing some of my SnusX. What I'm doing is taking it out of the bucket. Then I take 24 portions and put them into the snack sized ziploc bags (the ones that are 1/2 the size of sandwich bags). Next, I press the air out of these and seal them. After I do all of the portions like this I put all of the little bags into a gallon ziploc freezer bag. Then I stuff the freezer bag into the bucket, seal that and then date the bucket and put it in the freezer.

Finally, I have a sprout! One of my tobacco seeds has sprouted! I'm very excited! I'd post a picture, but he's so small that none of my cameras will focus properly on him. I'll post one as soon as I can get a focus.

I've been holding off on the SnusX experiments until I get some more cans finished. I technically have 7 open right now, but by the end of tomorrow, I should be down to 4. Long-term, I think my goal is no more then 4 cans open at once:

    1. Oomph
    2. SnusX experiment of the week
    3. A fun flavored snus
    4. Misc

I think Sunday I'll mix up another can of SnusX - "berry blend" again I think.

So, that's about it for happenings around the - House of Snus Laboratory - bwaa ha ha ah!

My wife is the Team Leader of the Whole Body dept. at a Whole Foods here in Houston and she mentioned that not all of the oils they have are safe for ingestion. If you want I can get her to make a list (will be local but you can always ask your local to order it) of what and what not to use.
*I can also have her bring home "samples" of some that she recommends as safe, I will gladly send some to whom ever wants them.

Hi Tim. I meant "Essential Oils" from the food department by the flavor extracts - I hope those are safe for ingestion.

Although, to be honest, I'm not 100% sure they carry them. I was looking for extracts last time I was there.

I think my biggest concern is any dental effects - i.e. maybe some are sweetened?

That's cool that she works for Whole Foods. I hate shopping, but I love to go there. I don't know anything about the chain, but the friendly, knowledgeable staff and quality products keep me going to our local one.

Oh, now, with a bit more research I see what you mean.

Essential Oil does not seem to consistently indicate that it is a food flavoring and some seem to be sold for medicinal and other purposes. That list would be greatly appreciated.
