I thought I was a flavor guy? - SnusOn Snus Forum and Community

After being very pleased with the Ettans and Göteborgs Rapé portions I broke open two more flavored brands: Olde Viking Spearmint and Thunder Coola Extra Stark.

Lets start with Olde Viking. First off, finally, a spearmint snus that actually has some spearmint taste! Unfortunately that is the best I can say at the moment. The spearmint profile is very generic leaning more towards the Native type which can have a slight metallic note. The level is good for me but here comes the rub...it disappears. After 30 minutes I get no real flavor unless I squeeze hard which just throws the balance off introducing salt and bitter parts. If the flavor could last longer and the overall snus had more depth I think I would like it more. Not the worst I have tasted but near the bottom. I saved the worst for the next snus.

I was really excited for the Thunder Coola. Upon opening it was the first time I was blown back by the aroma. It is more of a zesty lime to me...the spice notes typical of cola are there but subdued and the balance just isn't right. The portions were very wet which may or may not be typical but the drip actually made me cough the portion out. Tried another the next day and it only lasted 20 minutes...just too much and I broke my own three portion before posting rule. This snus is on probation from my rotation. If the flavor was better balanced and cut by 30% it would be better to my tastes. Plus it was another extra stark which I just can't handle well...12ish mg portions are about my limit for some reason. At this point I am mulling the idea of trying the Offroad Coola White portion version which has much less nic and maybe less flavor but as of now it would be only if nothing else is available.

The Classic Kanel is growing on me more...I still have a half a can left and each portion has gotten slightly better. It moves up a notch this go round.

Up to an even dozen. Not sure what will be next but there are a few cans with 1-2 portions into sampling...

Hey Lcarvone. Are you planning on trying gotland/jakobsson flader soon? I find myself missing the earthy and crisp taste of it after a day of not using it. I'm very interested to see your take on it. I find people either love it (like myself) or absoultly despise it.

I find that v2 snus has a flavor unlike Swedish snus. It is a Danish brand and I really like some of them....but mostly los.

The thunder line is what it is, strong nicotine with a strong flavor. I wouldn't be surprised if the strength of the flavoring in the thunders is to mask or counteract the flavor of the stark tobacco. The Original is a complex flavor that relies on the base tobacco and a citrus note but there is a lot going on in it for a plainer snus and I would surmise that the cools is flavored to mask that tobacco or at least keep it from sneaking through and throwing the taste of the coola. I like it for what it is myself....
