My cans of Göteborg’s Rapé and Knox lös arrived yesterday. I ordered a Prismaster, too, but GetSnus neglected to include it in the box. I e-mailed them about it, so I hope they'll correct the oversight soon. I've got a few 3 ml syringes on order, too, to make ghetto tools with (and to measure flavorings for SnusX), but they won't arrive until late next week. So, if I wanted to sample my lös today, I had no choice but to take a stab at handbaking.
It took me a few attempts to bake a pris that somewhat resembled a flattened cylinder. It's a little tricky to find just the right amount of pressure to get the lös to stick together. And my first pris is rather small, probably somewhere between a mini portion and a regular. But somehow I managed to get something workable, and get it under my lip more or less in one piece. So here I am typing with my very first prilla of GR in. I had to spit out a few crumbs at first, but for the most part it has held together and quickly molded to my gums.
The flavor is certainly different. Less salty, with more tobacco flavor. Seems that I'm getting better nicotine absorption than with portions, too. I think I'll probably prefer to use some kind of portioning tool in the future, but it's nice to know I've got the bare basics of handbaking covered. And I'll probably only use lös when I'm at home, at least for the foreseeable future.
Another first impression...
Gotland's Green Portion
I really, really wanted to like this one. And I have to admit, the elderberry flavoring is tasty. However, it's a delicate flavor, and gets drowned out by the enormous amount of salt. Not a bad snus, just way too salty for my taste. I'll add this tin to the emergency "OMG, I forgot to order" stash.
For the Gotlands, throw it in the freezer pick it back up when you don't notice the salt in other snus anymore.
Congrats on losing the los virginity! I still haven't made that leap. Although I think I should.
At some point I want to go completely DIY on the snus. And home-brew portions are either expensive, or big, or time-consuming, etc.
