I wasn't feeling like doing much today (it's very hot and muggy here, which saps my energy), but I got my lazy butt in gear enough to brew up some new SnusX experiments. Decided to go for 4 new flavors -- ginger/lime, mojito (lime & spearmint with a touch of rum), bourbon ball (chocolate & bourbon with a touch of vanilla), and root beer. I used the same spray-bottle technique described in previous blog entries.
Here are the recipes, for those interested. All four batches were alike in that I used 10 ml Aquafina, and all flavorings were from Faeries Finest, except for the spearmint (SnusX brand) and the vanilla (Kroger brand). So I'm just going to list the drops of flavoring for each recipe:
Ginger/lime: 12 drops lime, 8 drops ginger
Mojito: 12 drops lime, 8 drops spearmint, 2 drops rum
Bourbon ball: 12 drops chocolate, 8 drops bourbon, 2 drops vanilla
Root beer: 20 drops root beer
I have a feeling that not all these recipes will be successes, but hey, that's why these are experiments, right? And one note on technique: next time, if I'm making any minty flavors, I'll make them the last batch of that series. It was really hard to rinse the flavor/aroma out of the eyedropper and spray bottle, and I'm afraid some of the mint may have bled over into the other flavors. Maybe I need to get some more eyedroppers and spray bottles.
A first impression:
LD White Portion
Despite the disappearance of this snus in America due to PACT, I was able to get my hands on a couple cans thanks to the kind offer of a trade from AtreyuKun, so I wouldn't feel right if I didn't give him his props. He went out of his way to make sure I could sample this brand. He's a real stand-up guy. Thanks very much for giving me the opportunity to try this one, AK.
For his sake, I wish I could say that I loved this snus. Not that there's anything wrong with it -- in fact, it's very well made -- but it's a fairly simple bergamot-flavored snus. A good example of it's kind, but not terribly exciting, IMO. I'll definitely enjoy the cans I have, but I won't miss LD too much when they're gone. Maybe that's for the best, if we Yanks won't be able to get our hands on any more.
The root beer smelled pretty good while I was spraying the portions, so that's one can I'm hopeful will turn out well. The aroma was reminding me of childhood trips to A&W and other old-fashioned draft root beer stands.
