A lot of smokers think that they simply smoke because they have a self-destructive attitude that is making them harm themselves in any way possible. Their attitude is making them feel sick and even worse lead to several smoking related diseases or even death. If you've heard of people "cutting themselves", then smoking is a much more dangerous self-destructive attitude. Some people even say they don't want to reach an old age, thus a self-destructive attitude is helping them. Many others arrogantly continue to smoke, until it kills them. Nevertheless, many smokers are self-destructive at all. In fact, they're doing everything possible to live a healthy and happy life but fail when it comes to smoking.
While some smokers might have some emotional or mental problems which often leads to a self-destructive behavior, the majority of smokers aren't in this category whatsoever. A lot of people will say they're depressed or anxious just to run away from quitting this nasty habit, yet it's something that destroys their health, empties their bank accounts over time and most of the time leads to death sooner or later. No smoker alive, feels or lives a healthy life.
People often make excuses to not give up smoking yet they are only shocked when they actually do become ill. It's quite dramatic to think you're healthy enough, and suddenly get diagnosed of having cancer and believe it or not many people world-wide go through similar situations daily. Others have had heart attacks, heart strokes or other circulatory diseases. A lot of smokers were discovered to have major breathing impairments from emphysema or even lung cancer. Yet, quitting is the only way to help reduce the risks of getting any smoking related disease.
Many ex-smokers start smoking again and it's only the encouragement of family or close friends. Usually this happens to someone who is disease free and stops smoking to remain healthy. Initially they are nervous, anxious and depressed. Soon the spouse, kids and others are saying, "If this is what you are like as a non-smoker, please do smoke!" While it may seem to be a good idea at the time, consider how the relative feels when the smoker gets cancer or has a heart attack and dies.
Some beliefs or statements made by smokers sound irrational, as if they have a real death wish. Often, there is really nothing wrong with the person - it is a drug effect. Fear of withdrawal or of being unable to cope with life without cigarettes results in a defense mechanism to justify dependency. Once off smoking these excuses simply disappear, leaving a physically and psychologically healthier individuals who will have a good chance of remaining this way by following one simple procedure.
