Chewing (or smokeless) Tobacco Manliness Rating = 9.5

    Chewing (or smokeless) Tobacco
    Manliness Rating = 9.5

    A pouch of chewing tobacco

Chewing tobacco is the undisputed king of manly tobacco products. This product receives a very high manly rating because it requires the user to expectorate. Most women find spitting repulsive, which is a big part of what makes it so manly. Men that have manly professions, such as construction workers and cowboys rely on chewing tobacco to obtain nicotine. The most prominent varieties of smokeless tobacco include loose-leaf chewing tobacco and dip.
    Chewing Tobacco
Chewing tobacco is shredded tobacco leaves that have been cured and flavored (Figure 6). The use of chewing tobacco is relatively self-explanatory; you simply put a big wad in one side of your mouth and chew on it. Chewing tobacco doesn't contain as much nicotine as dip, but it produces much more spit. Chewing tobacco has other benefits, as well. Here's what our friend Jesse Ventura said about chewing tobacco in the film Predator : "This shit will turn you into a sexual Tyrannosaurus Rex!" While this has not been scientifically proven, I have generally found this statement to be true in my own experience.

    Copenhagen and Skoal,
    two popular brands of dip.

    Moist Snuff (Dip)
Being avid readers of a website dedicated to manliness, I doubt that you need an explanation of dip. However, for the benefit of the more emasculated readers of Arthur's Hall, please bear with me.

Dip is flavored, ground-up tobacco that comes in a round can (Figure 7). Typically, a pinch of dip is placed in the lower lip. Dip doesn't produce the amount of spit that chewing tobacco does; however, it contains very high amounts of nicotine. Therefore, my analysis concludes that chewing tobacco and dip have the same manliness rating.

All this according to Dr. Harlan K. Upmann:
Manly Tobacco Use: Swedish Snus, Chewing Tobacco, Pipe Tobacco, Nasal Snuff...

The manly part (sexy part for your lady) is the tin in the back pocket of your favorite jeans with a nice wear ring. Also, the the snus can on the nightstand with the wallet, keys etc... especially the pure mint can, very sharp, put your chit in that. The spitting/spit cup is just disgusting for everyone but the spitter . My wife will kiss me with a portion in, forget it with a dip.

I have a wear ring from my snus, people think I am a dipper, so extra manly points. If you put snus in your bottom lip it will make it easier to spit, so we get manly wear rings and spitting without the increased risk.

My husband will also kiss me with a portion in, but he hated the way I smelled when I smoked cigarettes. :-)

Other than the fact that they are more dangerous than Snus the major difference between chew, dip and snus is that chew and dip are loaded with sugar. Silly doctor, chew is for kids.

I know that there are probably other factors in play when determining how dangerous a product is, but some of the American chewing tobaccos are actually quite low in TSNA's, a few even lower than Swedish snus. Red Man is rated at 1.8, Oliver Twist-Tropical at 1.5. Tends to be quite a bit lower in nicotine than snus, though.

Then again, that's going by the 2003 study which (if I can remember correctly) astronomically botched the numbers on a few of the dry snuffs.

All of the sugar/sweetening agents can't be good for the teeth, either.
