    Intro new member from Holland

    Hi there,

Introducing myself seemed the polite way to do since I am new here,so here goes: "Hi ,I'm 'dutch'and I'm a tabaccoholic' At first i didn't want to admit it but ok..it's the truth!'.
Like my cigar from time to time, love smoking a good pipe ,and am reeeallly addicted to chewing Tobacco ! Loving it . Overhere there's not much to choose from ,only t w o brands; 'witte os' ('white oxen') and 'Kentuck' which is flavored whole leaf chewing Tobacco. I'm currently trying all kinds of of snuss ,(a gift from some travellers from sweden), but..while the nicotine contend is fine, the taste-don't know,I think I'm more
of a 'whole leaf' kinda guy really. Last week I ordered a whole BUNCH of different kinds of chaw with the northener company (beechnut, mail pouch, levi garret etc.etc, some plug as well) and I'm really looking foreward to trying them !? ('hope customs won't interfere..fingers crossed..) Red man was the only one brand I have been able to get here so far , shipped from the usa, and I'm loving it (bit sweet but ok) Nothing more to report really,I did some studying in the past and am currently working all kinds of jobs to make a living. Am looking foreward to get to know the people here and to share the little Tobacco-knowledge that I might have .Am open to suggestions or questions and offcourse would like to learn all about chewing Tobacco.

    Sincere greetings,

    dutch

Dutch chocolate is a processing method. Dunno if it came from the Netherlands. Never seen Dutch chew. Got any interesting brands?

Ah! Thanks for that-never knew, learned something then (*googling it right now..) And about those brands,well..I've no idea if they're interesting, they sur are b i t t e r ,that's for shure.
One of the (only)two brands left overehere is calles "Witte Os"(white oxen) and is being made with portorican Tobacco if I'm not mistaken, real Tobacco flavor,no sweetener what so ever, the other is called "Kentuck"and it says on the package 'saused"(flavored) but bitter as well, a little, little bit of sweet can be tasted after a short while.
I know I just got in here and I'm definetely n o t trying to sell anything but..if any of you people are seriously interested I'm more than happy to send you a small sample of the both-I've got a few pouches lying around here so..

Greetings and thanks for the chocolate !

I might be able to turn you on to something close to home. Ever heard of Molens Stichting de Kralingse Snuff? It's nasal snuff, made in a windmill. The quality is first rate, and the prices are good. Not a substitute for chew, but it would make a nice addition.

That one I do know - great place, good prices as well, and a very interesting assortment. Not really into snuff myself but..maybe another try wouldn't hurt.
(tried some chinese snuff ones and that didn't go down (up?) very well.)My first love is still chew but as an addition? Good idea. Thanks for the tip.

I think you people are allowed to order snuff from the Netherlands and have it send to you ?? You have no idea how Lucky you are ...
Last night I read on this forum somebody saying he saw as many as 30 different brands/tastes of chew just at some grocers nearby ??
To me that sounds like nirvana !

30 brands might be a bit high, but yea, chew is pretty common in the USA. Some areas have more selection than others. Rural areas are generally better stocked than urban.

At least 30.... never had any real desire for them... no where as healthy as snus. Tooth rot and spitting...heartburn. has to be 40 different dips and over a dozen american scotch snuffs. Not one damn can of Swedish snus!

                              Welcome Dutch!

I would advise against getting any English chewing tobacco unless you are feeling very experimental ... the pigtail twists from our companies in Kendal (Gawith & Hoggarth and Samuel Gawith) are very heavily fire-cured and are sweet and bitter at the same time!

If you fancy trying something sweet, Danish company Lakrisan make tobacco bites bigger than Oliver Twists that taste of liquorice. And Grimm & Trippel in Germany make very very sweet chewing tobacco in a traditional way.

Or you could try buying whole-leaf tobacco from somewhere like Pureleaf base in the UK and make your own! You can even grow it outdoors in our northern european climate pretty successfully - I have lots drying in my shed at the moment ... there's even a variety called 'Little Dutch'!!!

Sometimes wrong and sometimes right .... but ALWAYS certain!!!
