Thanks for the info @squeezyjohn ! Love to read and learn new things. I understand you didn't like the twist/rope tobacco from G&H or SG then ? I've been warned once before for them - Kendall-twist (for chewing or pipe) should only be used if you're a rugged sea-man,with beard and crossing some wild water they told me
Myself I do love that bitter taste of tobacco. When my greatgrandfather died I moved his belongings to charity and got to choose some items as a remembrance.I chose his old, broken watch, his pocket knife and an old pouch of kentuck. As a kid I would love to listen to his stories about hard work in difficult circumstances-be it bad weather, food shortage and ww2.The things the man had done 'for fun' with his mates blew me away ; not only did his stories seem to have come from another time but to me it was like a whole different world..and I would sit and listen with awe. When starting using the chewing tobacco I would make sure I was working outside,in cold or wet weather and trying to put myself in his shoes.Kind of as a tribute or remembrance. That bitter yet sweet taste of the chew reminded me of other times ,of the ruggedness of life and the human condition in general -sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet .But before I go all philosophical I can state that I'm not some scolar but just a simple 'jack of all trades' trying to make it through the day with the help of a bit of tobacco. That's all
The german tobacco I have tried (Jager tobacco bits and some other blue can with a salmiak kind of taste-real good !) Germany is only some 30kilometers away so once in a while I grab my bike and go there to get some groceries and I allways bring back some (new) tobacco.Somehow If you have to make an effort to get something it even tastes a little better I think. Grimm and Trippel I am definetely going to try -thanks for the tip! I've allways thought what they sold was little tobacco-candy, not your regular chewing tobacco so I am happily surprised that I got that wrong .
Whole-leaf tobacco is a great idea but finding a firm that is willing (and lawfully allowed to-)send it to the Netherlands? I haven't found one sofar. Making my own chew is something I love to do and not only is it a fun littleactivity the taste is not tht bad either.(the complete 'how to' I found on youtube from a gentleman named 'mississippemike' - fun to watch !)
Growing my own tobaco is something I've tried one season but alas a storm blew my plants over flat to the ground and I haven't tried it again..perhaps i should.I apploud your skills !!
Never knew there even is a variety of seeds called 'little dutch'- I'am googling for it right now. Thanks for the info , I sure did learn a thing or two today which is greatly appreciated.
Sincere greetings,
dutch
