Thanks for the info @squeezyjohn ! Love to read and learn new things. I understand you didn't like the twist/rope tobacco from G&H or SG then ? I've been warned once before for them - Kendall-twist (for chewing or pipe) should only be used if you're a rugged sea-man,with beard and crossing some wild water they told me Myself I do love that bitter taste of tobacco. When my greatgrandfather died I moved his belongings to charity and got to choose some items as a remembrance.I chose his old, broken watch, his pocket knife and an old pouch of kentuck. As a kid I would love to listen to his stories about hard work in difficult circumstances-be it bad weather, food shortage and ww2.The things the man had done 'for fun' with his mates blew me away ; not only did his stories seem to have come from another time but to me it was like a whole different world..and I would sit and listen with awe. When starting using the chewing tobacco I would make sure I was working outside,in cold or wet weather and trying to put myself in his shoes.Kind of as a tribute or remembrance. That bitter yet sweet taste of the chew reminded me of other times ,of the ruggedness of life and the human condition in general -sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet .But before I go all philosophical I can state that I'm not some scolar but just a simple 'jack of all trades' trying to make it through the day with the help of a bit of tobacco. That's all
The german tobacco I have tried (Jager tobacco bits and some other blue can with a salmiak kind of taste-real good !) Germany is only some 30kilometers away so once in a while I grab my bike and go there to get some groceries and I allways bring back some (new) tobacco.Somehow If you have to make an effort to get something it even tastes a little better I think. Grimm and Trippel I am definetely going to try -thanks for the tip! I've allways thought what they sold was little tobacco-candy, not your regular chewing tobacco so I am happily surprised that I got that wrong .
Whole-leaf tobacco is a great idea but finding a firm that is willing (and lawfully allowed to-)send it to the Netherlands? I haven't found one sofar. Making my own chew is something I love to do and not only is it a fun littleactivity the taste is not tht bad either.(the complete 'how to' I found on youtube from a gentleman named 'mississippemike' - fun to watch !)
Growing my own tobaco is something I've tried one season but alas a storm blew my plants over flat to the ground and I haven't tried it again..perhaps i should.I apploud your skills !!
Never knew there even is a variety of seeds called 'little dutch'- I'am googling for it right now. Thanks for the info , I sure did learn a thing or two today which is greatly appreciated.

    Sincere greetings,

    dutch

@Whalen So you are more into swedish snuss then ? I find that a bit strong to be honest - or the vitamine N is kicking in too f a s t ,I don't know but it has been numeral times now that after taking a bit I had to sit down because of the '*kick*' Funny but not as fun when you're driving for instance I still have several cans left - different brands and tastes,so I'm still trying out what I like.
Can't swedish snuss be ordered for you very easily over the internet than Sir? There are some great companies with a very w i d e variety of both barnds and tastes available I think ??

Ah and about the heaven or hell debate ; 'heaven for climate - Hell for friends' I believe.

Maybe because it is so little - it doesn't blow over in your heavy Dutch winds!

Although American dip has succeeded in reducing TSNA levels, dip still irritates gums and stomach. Chew has similar problems plus sugars to rot your teeth.

Swedish snus is the safest form of oral tobacco and all I would use........ There are mini portions that can be used to limit the nicotine uptake, or you could simply remove the snus and squeeze into a tissue to lessen the uptake. Harm reduction is paramount here, and I am surrounded by commonly available and cheap American style oral tobacco that is not going to be part of my rotation.

I'm not all that sure I agree with that anymore ... although when it comes to the commercially available versions of dip and chew - it is pretty hard to get chew that doesn't contain natural sugars which is a danger when it comes to tooth and gum health. But the problem with swallowing the juice that can lead to sickness of the stomach or heartburn is removed with chewing tobacco as soon as you choose to put it in your upper lip instead of your cheek like chew is traditionally used.

My rustica twist chew contains no sugars - is simply air cured at low temperatures with a light casing of salt, glycerol and non-sugary flavourings and has the bonus that it is strong enough that a small pellet of it can be easily left in the upper lip with no juice effect the same as snus. I don't know the TSNA level in it - but my hunch is that it would be low. Commercially available non-sugared chew like the american Cotton Boll twist can be used in the same way but is harder to manage as it is quite big in comparison.

            Cheers

Welcome dutch. It's nice to have a fresh sense of humor around.

Snus can take a while to grow on you, and in my experience as an occasional chewer and dipper (usually beech nut chew and copenhagen dip) I find that loose snus is a more satisfying experience than portions. Then again, everyone's different; you may decide you want to stick with chew. That's up to you. My advice is to give snus some time before you decide you're done with it, and as far as chewing goes just remember to brush your teeth a little extra.

              cheers.

Thanks you Sir,for your welcome and comments-offcourse I wasn't going to leave the dip / snus alone t h a t quick, still trying and tasting . Got about 9 cans left ; skoal, copenhagen and grizzly, all kinds of tastes and sorts. (someone overhere brought it back from a holliday to the states but desided after sniffing at it once that he didn't like it - my luck!) Could you fruther explain as to w h y you prefer the loose portions over the pouches ?? I never tried the latter but am just curious.
Beechnut I have never tried before,I read about the brand and taste on this forum and decided to buy some from the northener-website. That became quite the hassle because my bank wouldn't let me transfer money overseas - just went there today and one click of some button et voila..I am able to now pay overseas as well.. dutchy goes 21st century !?
Right about now I'm sitting behind the old laptop, reading as much as I can about chew and other Tobacco related articles allready on this great forum - tasting some skoal with a peach-flavoring.Not bad-can feel the buzz (so much quicker and hefty-er than with whole leaf chew !..am I imagining it or .. ??)

about the brushing-part: I can happily tell you that after taking good care of them I still have all my own teeth
