I been posting my dip talk in the Snus forum ! What the heck is the diffrence in the two I been dipping good ol american mosit dip for 4 decades and really thout snus was just a forien name or fancy name for dip o well live and learn
snus and dip are completely different. Snus is upper-lipped and does not require spitting. It is much safer due to being pasteurized and not fire-cured like American dip.
No worries about posting in the snus forums. It's one more thing we have to consider with making all the different forum labels a bit clearer. When we named the "Dip" forum, we kind of forgot about that most of the world knows American moist tobacco as either snuff or snus, not Dip.
We have the same problem with Nasal snuff. I think it may be time to take another look at how we named them and give them a bit of a tweak. ;-)

Welcome to the forum Pipes
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I disagree. "Dip" was started being made in the US to provide the Scandinavian immigrants with the style of snuff they were accustomed to using. Hence, the brand names Copenhagen and Skoal.
Yes, it is made by different processes, but it is essentially the same thing for the same purpose. Yes, I also agree that Swedish snus is safer due to not being made with fermented tobacco.
To me, they're very different. Yeah, there's the fermentation and all but there's more that goes along with dipping...mainly the expectorating. I don't really do that around people. I find it off-putting. I also use way more tobacco per dip than I do with snus. Plus the dip is spent usually after 30 min.
