First off, thanks for the concerns everyone. While I have been diagnosed with leukoplakia, I'm not too worried about it. Nearly every user of smokeless tobacco (including dip and snus) will develop it in their lifetime. Second, spitting is not required, since I place the pouches in my upper lip. I still have about 50 cans of snus from my stash to go through before I make a final decision, so it will be a few months. If the price of snus goes up much more, I may be forced to switch to dip, since I have been unemployed for some time and don't feel like depleting my savings.

There is more going on in American dip than TSNA.

And my brand was Timber Wolf Natural fine cut
Agree. I dabbled with dip again off and on in the past few months and have come to the conclusion that the heartburn and need to spit just isn't worth it and yes, there is definitely something beyond the TSNA's going on in dip. Never thought I would say this coming off a 30+ year of Copenhagen habit but dip in any form just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I think regular dip pouches are too big. The Bandit size it just about right, but that's only available in mint and wintergreen, which I don't care for. As far as prices go, locally, it depends where you live. Dip is fairly cheap here. Since I don't dip at work, a can lasts me a few days. I don't mind spitting at home, though I would not want to do it at work. I'm still hoping a US brand makes a quality non-sweet/flavored snus, I think someday it might happen.

The heartburn is most likely from swallowing too much off the dip juices.

or not swallowing at all. The saliva neutralizes the acid in your stomach and without it as in the case of constant spitting you don't balance out the stomach juices and it causes the heartburn. It was happening to me with every dip for the last year or two of my dipping habit. If I forced fluids with the dip in it was not as bad if at all but that was definitely the cause.

Here's a link of some TSNA content in US smokeless tobacco products.

Dip is alright for the occasional use but for all day and everything snus is where it's at.

I hate the fact of having to spit and snus is definitely way safer in every way.

Prices are getting shitty, but honestly if you buy in bulk it does save some money and is actually cheaper than dip, especially since you use a lot more dip than you would snus.

And of course an experienced ex-dipper is correct about the not spitting. I like to have a dip every now and again, mostly when hanging around a fire drinking. This is the only time multiple dips don't lead to heartburn for me, prolly due to the case of beer I'm putting away. But seriously before snus and during my dipping career I was taking at least one of the acid reducers for my chronic reflux. Now I might take a pepcid ac once a month.......
