    Dipping

I've just received my cans of Dip, after a whole long month they finally arrived.

Some of them are in the fridge, and I was wondering if dip should stay in the freezer just like snus.. ?!

I've dipped for like 3 days now, and I've noticed that the base of my gum hurts even when I don't have the dip in .. is this normal for starters?

Hi, I'll think If you've not been using any oral tobaccos before it can do. I started with snus and after years I tryed dip and didn't feel the burn on upper deck but at low it surely burned a bit. Same as snus. I do not feel the burn so much nowadays.

      @MJ26

It's not only the burn it's a painful sensation on the gum

Even when I take it out.

And apart from that .. the dip gives me heartburn. (I had to take some baking soda earlier)

Try to use it like a portion. Put in a teabag I think it burns less or different brands.

I have Copehagen pouches .. I'll crack the can open tomorrow and see how I like them.

The burning feeling wasn't very pleasant (I mean the heartburn)

Heartburn, you aren't gutting it. Yeah if you have a cut anywhere in your mouth the juice will make it burn, as for the heartburn that seems unusual, I would never reccomend buying a lot of cans without trying any dip personally. It's definitely going to hurt your mouth that's normal, certain brands hurt more, in general wintergreen hurts worse than natural. :arge pinches hurt your gums more and dry dip hurts your gums more. Your dip should be moist enough that you get some juice on your fingers while taking a pinch.

Don't put them in the freezer it will actually freeze which will make the first few pinches within a couple of hours good but then it will taste werid is what I've heard, maybe try it with one can and see how that turns out. Definitely put it in the fridge though. Oh and the dip will taste worse in about two to three months, I'm not sure how fresh you got it, but the bottom of the cans have dates or codes that tell you how old it is. The cardboard copenhagen will probably be kind of dry so you might want to add a bit of water (fill a cup with water and dump it out whatever drops are left over put in the can, do that a couple of times and then pack the can and put it in the fridge).

Freezing your dip will not hurt it. I have 100 cans of skoal long cut wintergreen in the freezer as I type and have been freezing dip for years. I get it in 5 can rolls and put two rolls in a quart freezer bag before tossing the bags in the freezer. It freezes just as well as snus does and the flavor is not effected.
One thing to do is keep track of the dates on the cans/rolls, and like with snus use the oldest first.
The hurt may be caused because of a couple of reasons:
              1. You are packing your pris too hard. Especially with dip vs snus, you don't have to pack as tightly.
              2. You may be packing in too large of a pris. Even with snus, if I pack too large of a pris, it hurts my gum where it is pressing against it.

              Gutting dip:
Not for everyone. I have always gutted. However, if I get into a very fresh can or pack too much into my cheek, I get hiccups and they don't go away until I spit it out. The next pinch is not as big and no hiccups.
Heartburn, I don't get it from dip, but I do get it from foods. As with me and the hiccups, you may be putting too much in and getting a large dose to give you the heartburn. Or a very fresh can that is strong. Then again, the dip my be a trigger for another condition that is actually causing your heartburn. I have to tak an acid blocker because of an ulcer that developed because of my stomach acid being too strong. Food high in acid, like tomato sauces, rip me up if I do not take my med and I will get woken up in the middle of the night with heartburn if I forget my med.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled forum.

I've frozen dip before with no ill effects. Just be sure to let it thaw completely and I'm not so sure I'd re-freeze it after. Just use it up.

The lip thing takes a bit of getting used to. The pain will subside as your gums/lip thicken a little. I'm assuming, coming from snus, you aren't taking heroic dips yet...like 20% of the can or more so I don't think the size is the problem...though it will be eventually if you keep it up. That's what happened to me. After three or four years my dips had gotten so big that my mouth couldn't take the pain anymore but a small dip didn't feel right. Even now, I can't take more than 4 dips in a day. 2 is best but then again I haven't had any in a month or so I don't think.

I think the heartburn comes from not swallowing. Your saliva works to balance the acid in your stomach and when it doesn't get any saliva 'cos your spitting things get out of balance. For me, antacids worked a little, but I always got heartburn when I dipped, especially towards the end. Switching to snus completely eliminated this issue for me. 100%. For that reason I don't believe that the tobacco nor the nicotine has anything to do with the heartburn. It's the saliva, man.

How do you like the taste though? The spitting? The tobacco burn is great, but the tearing of the gums stinks on ice.

I use a can of Copenhagen orignal puches a day but I have always been a heavy tobaaco user of all kinds ! I started using these pouches like you have a tin of a few months ago when they banned smoking in public places here in Michigan ! For me and this is odd the pouches carry a big enough punch and do not give me heart burn and I gut everything always have ! I do some Grizzl WG now and then and it does bother my stomach a little . You may or may not get use to it IMO . As for the gums hurting that a go away after you dip a while but I been dipping so long I can't remeber if it was a problem for me or not ! I recomend brushing and flossing 2 x a day doing this and using a LOT a vitamin C I have ZERO gum problems .YMMV of course But I highly recomend mega doses of Vitamin C specialy if a gum is acting up it works for me anyway .Hope it helps .

I use the pouches because it a LOT less mess when Iam bowling and for me there plenty strong enough and I was a heavy cig smoker and pipe smoker for 44 yrs . But it took a bit befor I got use to just dip in the smaller pouch amounts now its a nice nicotine hit and I have no need to load a 1/4 can and rip my lip and gums up the pouches are IMO much easier on gums and hygeine again ymmv of course !

The Viatamin C does help your gums agaIN imo AND HIGHER DOESE A CLEAR UP A MESSED UP GUM A lot FASTER again thats just my 2 cents . also if you can find the I find Dr's Brush Picks to be much better for your gums than floss .
