WTF - Copenhagen Straight Long Cut

Yesterday I've opened a can of Skoal Straight ... and a strong smell of Wintergreen came out of it... it tastes like Wintergreen too...

Today I've opened a can of Copenhagen Straight Long Cut and this one smells the same ...

I mean WTF is happening ... is this how Straights are supposed to be ?

    It's pure Wintergreen..

I thought it's supposed to have a natural tobacco taste...

It has a straight flavor. Not wintergreen or any other mint to speak of. You either got a bum tin or a bum nose.

My smell is so sharp that I can feel the smell from another room that's like 100 metres away from my office.

Believe me this is Wintergreen.... or .. there's a chance that the Straight Flavor is very similar to Wintergreen...

Is there someone that actually tried Straight before to confirm this?

Sounds like bad quality control at Cope/Skoal. I got a can of Cope Natural Extra Long Cut yesterday, and it's pure tobacco.

I think it was the shipping dude. If I remember correctly you ordered a ton of dip from the US recently. It probably all came in one box. I'd guess that's your issue since you had the same problem with another straight. Also the must be stored separately. Dip in transit for a week (and I think it took longer for you) will certainly make for flavor transfer. I don't have any advice for getting that out if it's even possible. You could try airing it out, but that will also dry it a little. IMO, it's cashed but if you can tolerate the mintiness then the dip hasn't really gone bad or anything. Bummer that you didn't get a true experience of a straight dip though. Next time you order, order all of your straights then wait a couple of days before ordering your mints. I know it makes for more shipping charges but if you pay for something you're not happy with then it's not a good deal anyhow.

I have heard this many times, Straight has it's own unique(odd) smell and taste, yet many people say it's like wintergreen. I personally did not get wintergreen, but my wife said that's what it smelled like.

+1 From what I remember when trying it, the Straight came across to me as a "Wintergreen" type dip. Probably more of a rootbeer-ish back flavor but certainly reminded me of wintergreen and I didn't much care for it.

I use both straight and wintergreen. They do not taste or smell similar, to me. Which is not to say that your straight couldn't have picked up aroma from the wintergreen in shipping.

I mean this is pretty weird .. there have been a couple dozen cans in my order and only these two have a weird wintergreen taste.... all the other natural cope/skoal were all ok ...

so what is Straight like ... ?!

Apart from the taste of Wintergreen (doesn't burn the lip like Copenhagen does) is has a ultra-sweet taste to it....

I see that Lazer and Tom's wife say that it's similar too wintergreen too..

                    Damn confusing....

It could have borrowed a bit of smell from one of the other cans of wintergreen but how can it taste like ****ing wintergreen :-)

Again, just to recall my personal take on the Straight it reminded me of Wintergreen in the way of the sweetness and aroma somewhat. Not so much the burn. I just didn't care for it when compared with orginal Copenhagen finecut for example. I haven't tried all the variations of Cope so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

                        Hmmm .. I guess they're straight after all ...

The funny thing is that Skoal Straight is exactly like Copehagen Straight...

I actually have two kinds of Copenhagen Straight ... It's Cope Straight and Copenhagen Straight Long Cut (these two have a very similar taste as well)

Same wintergreenish aroma ... very sweet...

Here's my take on it. Hardcore Wintergreen fans & dippers probably don't get the same take on the Straight as some of us that are more squeamish and less fond of Wintergreen. Not to derail this thread but with that said for example, I can't stand General Wintergreen in snus but the Jak's variation I somewhat enjoy. Figure that out as the Jak's I know even has that added sweetness to it.

Many straight dips are spicy so they may have hint of wintergreen examble. That's true but not pure wintergreen its just a little.

Cope Straight could not taste any less like Wintergreen to me.
