Hang on I'm confused...........are you saying that because it is dip there wont be any portion material (portions being just a snus thing)

    or

are you saying because they specify that it is "cut dip" it wont be in portions.

If (a) then my response would be: Skoal Bandits and Copenhagen pouches

If (b) then I would point out that cutting the cured tobacco leaf is not something that is exclusive to los dip. All the dip I have ever had (pouched or los) has been cut. Not only that, notice this dip is specifically designated "ready cut" which may very well indicate it is ground for a pouch/portion format. Then again it might not. But my guess is that the cotton is used in the pouch/portion material..........and.................since cotton is a bio product and to be put in the mouth................it must be listed.

Keep in mind when cope wg was released they didn't update the ingredient list for a long time.
I shot an email to my contact at Altria a few minutes ago with questions about all this new stuff. Usually they answer 1 out of 100 questions I send, so I may get some info back. Hopefully!

If it was in a 'portion' it was be listed under the POUCHES tab, not under the 'Cuts'.. It's some sort of new cut, and I think the poster above is correct, the cotton is there to keep the dip together a little better.

Let me just throw this out there

The link Chad provided above was to a discussion about American snus (in particular the potential release of a Copenhagen Snus following the sales of Skoal snus)

          Here is my concern

I think the biggest hurdle that snus has in the US market is its association with dip and chew (both of which are seen as uncouth and redneck)

And yet to a T every single US company can't resist putting their damn name all over the can (be it Lucky Strikes, Camel, Marlboro, PM, Copenhagen, or Skoal). The problem is that while brand recognition usually works................in this case it is exactly what is not needed.

American snus is either being equated to cigarettes or to dip and thereby the market for snus is being cut out from under it.

Now this may be an intentional effort to close off the market to Swedish snus (which would cut into cigarette sales and threaten to upset the dominance of the leading dip brands in a way that a new brand of dip could not) or it may just be dumb ass marketing.

          My bet is the first

Ahh..............now I see...............I have not visited the site so I did not see the whole tab thing.......................that makes since now.

            Interesting................

I have no idea why you would want to put cotton in dip..........they already use a hydration/bonding agent..........so that explanation seems a bit redundant (and a more expensive means to the same end to boot)

Regardless...........this does seems to reopen the whole fiberglass debate though..........Think about it..............a company that would never put fiberglass in their product................is now adding cotton fibers to their product...............hummmm

Again just kidding about the whole fiberglass thing.....................but definitely not kidding about my lack of trust concerning anything Big Tobacco does.

Anyway OneandOnly thanks for clarifying the whole tab thing for me..............I see your point and have returned to my normal state of baffledness

I forgot my snus today so I went to the gas station here and noticed they had Skoal snus. I was like wtf, really? Let me get some baby! Tried it out and was actually impressed. Actual large portions that taste decent and are frankly very enjoyable. I am glad because when I forget my snus I can now finaly just run to the store and get something that works.

Copenhagen has new flavors too Mint lc, Wg fc, some more neat cut stuff, black, straight, mint, wg pouches as well as the copenhagen snus and skoal tobacco sticks.

My first thought is um wow why do they have 20 plus new cuts and flavors coming out or at least listed? My second is is ready cut or neat cut a snus cut? Oh and the ready cut apparently contains cotton fabric as an ingredient which seemed weird.

This is great news to me because i had some smooth mint snus and i stated on this forum that i would love for them to introduce a smooth mint in a long cut. Well i guess some wishes do come true. Roll Tide to that!

I would probably like that smooth mint LC if it was pastuerized.

In a truly free market I don't see how a clearly superior product such as snus is overshadowed by something like dip or other forms of smokeless tobacco. I know I know, cig companies got there first so they have all the marketing money now, but still I just don't see why snus isn't being mass adopted by every single smokeless user nationwide. It has to be an issue of awareness or something.

That being said, these new cuts were new to me. What are these new cuts going to look like? They already have a long cut, a medium cut, a fine cut etc etc, not sure where else they can go. And I am REALLY interested to see what warrants the addition of cotton fabric as part of the readycut version, wtf is that about?
As a user of both swedish snus and us dip take the health concerns out of the equation and it is like comparing a nice bottle of wine to domestic beer both have their places both taste good but offer a different experience. These days i use snus 80% of the time I love subtle flavorings place it and forget about it no spit.Sometimes I crave something snus cannot deliver the flavors of skoal & timberwolf straight, The huge burn and wintergreen burst from grizzly. The one and only flavor that is cope snuff and the spitting is sometimes good relieves boredom on a slow workday or a day at home.

My friends can't believe I use "dip." They can't tell the difference between snus and dip. It's all the same to them. Just like every time I use snuff I have to explain that I'm not using meth. And every time I tell someone I smoke a pipe they assume I mean either a marijuana pipe or a crack pipe. People are so ignorant about tobacco it makes you want to scream. Why is it that we are one of the largest meth producing states in the union but I have to order my snuff all the way from Europe? Talk about ineffective government....
