I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Yes they do. It could just be that in "the south" it just more accepted. East Coast here too, but the only dippers I have seen are more "private" about it, not really do so publicly, spitting on the sidewalks and stuff.

I live in Arkansas, and I actually don't know many people that dip - most of the dippers I know I have converted to snus. And it's interesting to see how fewer people smoke here than used to. I was talking about it with someone the other day, the last two shops I've ran have been completely smoker free - which is rare - as in the restaurant business it's almost a rite of initiation to be a smoker.

I live in western Kansas and many many people here dip. Snus, however, is unheard of. I live in a town of 20,000 and I wouldn't be surprised if I am the only one here who even knows what loose snus is (as opposed to Camel Snus, which all the gas stations sell). Nasal snuff is also unknown. Many people have never even heard of it. I've only met one other pipe smoker in the 20 years I've lived here, and I haven't met any cigar smokers. Dip and cigarettes, however, are very popular. Lowest common denominator stuff.

I'm in Vermont and don't personally know anyone who dips but there must be a market for it because every conveience store here offers a pretty wide variety of dip. When I lived in Mississippi I knew tons of people who dipped. Growing up in Tenn. many of the guys in high school dipped. I'd say at least a third of the guys in my high school dipped. I smoked at that time.

I live in georgia and met a guy at Belk, where I work, who is from NYC. I saw a circle can outline in his pants from his dip can. So I gave him a can of snus and we talked for a lil bit. So yes even yankees from the big city dip grizzly

I think smokeless is pretty widely used here and might of also come from the heavy Scandinvian population in the state. IF you look at the names SKOAL-COPENHAGEN you could in one way relate to the product from just a little ancestry. IT makes almost as much sense as a Redneck using these products. lol

FORGOT, also about our high Native American population, woods and animals which subliminally makes you want to try REDMAN, TIMBERWOLF, KODIAK, and GRIZZLY...

According to recent statistics Wyoming is the state with the most smokeless users (10 or 11 percent of the adult population), while California has the lowest percentage (about 1%). I can't remember the source, but it was some sort of official publication that was reported on some website. The Swedish snus percentages seem to be about 20% for men and 5% for women, so that would be 12.5% and thus even higher than Wyoming (this is from another website that I can't remember). I also remember reading that Nevada and Kentucky have the highest percentages of smokers, with Utah in last place.

Note that Wyoming is not usually considered part of the south.

My dad is the only person I know who dips (he's from west virginia). Then again I'm the only person I know who uses snus (I live in michigan).... Most of my friends are either tobacco free or smoke...

Don't ask me why i have this. most comes from government and "anti"-thisorthat sites. i can't promise it to be without error. i can say that it was accurate enough for the needs in which i compiled it for. Each category is a percent of adults in that state. "Smokes" is mainly cigarettes. Alcohol is those who drink alcohol at all. Smokeless probably don't include any snus use since there probably was hardly any snus use at the time of these stats. Oh yea, if i remember correctly the stats are from 2009 or 2010 but i think it was 2010. all the dots are an attempt to keep a semblance of formatting in this post.
