So I had a dip relapse...

    Hi everyone.

So I ran out of snus, and it's a weekend so all of the stores around me that sell it are closed (bummer). I've been unable to make another online purchase until just now. And I've had intense nicotine cravings all day and so, I didn't want to buy dip since I'm a former dipper who was constantly worrying about cancer. Long story short, against good conscience, I gave up and bought some Red Man dip. I'm aware of the gum disease and other things, but mostly concerned about cancer, which opinions regarding dip are split on.

Is this stuff safe enough to use at least until I get my next snus order (or my snus-selling store opens, whichever happens first)? To me it seems like if dip were as safe as some studies suggest, all of the other public health authorities would be saying the same thing.

I apologize about all these "dip health" posts, I'm just terrified of the stuff. Snus is a god-send.

"Public health authorities" can't be trusted. They say the same thing about snus they say about dip. I don't think dip is that bad for you, and the occasional tin especially won't hurt anything. Whether it was bad in the past, I don't know, but the dip companies have been refining their process, and have removed many of the harmful constituents, mainly TSNAs. I haven't paid close attention to dip studies since I'm not really interested, but don't sweat a tin, or a year of tins as far as that goes. If there is harm there, it isn't nearly as bad as the anti tobacco zealots would lead you to believe.

It's possible that Red Man dip, being a Swedish Match product, has its TSNA levels well under control although not likely as low as their snus products.

I use chew all the time.

I keep some dip in my bathroom for when I take a shower and use leaf chew when I putter around in the yard.

How would you feel if you were having a nic fit and got hit by a bus? Me, I'd rather die with a smile and a wad of baccy in my lip.

I still have a cigarette now and then too. So, what the hell do I know...

i dip from time to time still when waiting on an order. You'll be fine. I believe timber wolf and red man are swedish match products. someone posted an email conversation they had with a rep from SM saying that timber wolf had like 6ppm of tsnas or however you put that phrase. so its relatively safe

Whenever OFFROAD WG LONGCUT was discontinued I have put official USA dip into my tobacco rotation. I use about a tin or two in a full week mixed with portions and los.

It feels guilty but it helps me sh#t! like a smoke use to.

I love dip. As long as you don't use large amounts like other

              then you're safe

I just don't think you'll "get cancer" from these things. I think some people get cancer, and it's in there genes. And if that person just happened to use tobacco, they wanna blame that. I don't think science knows. I hear it's inhaling smoke that's bad, but many people smoke and don't get cancer, and many people who never used tobacco get cancer, in the mouth, and the lungs.... personally I think it's genetic and breathing in our polluted and radiated air.

The only bad I see from dip or any oral tobacco, apart from the nicotine addiction, is the wear on the gums. I mean you have something rubbing on your gum/teeth area, for long times and years, I'd think it could have a bad effect, also considering again the genetic gum/teeth health of the person. Some it may never bother at all, and some it may really eat up their gums.

                  +1 Tom

there are multiple causes to cancer.

It's true that quite a couple of my relatives have died of cancer, including both of my grandfathers (liver and lung cancer) and one of my grandmothers has died of cancer as well. (another two aunts and one uncle)

But the bottom line is that out of all my relatives, only my grandfather have smoked and drank a lot.

But my 4 other relatives that died of cancer, never drank or smoked (barely on occasions).

So it's hard to say dip or snus would give cancer.
