    Skoal TSNA Update

For any of you living in/visiting Canada check out the dip cans and you can see they post toxic constituent info on the can. Skoal TSNA is down to 4µg/g (Compare this to 2µg/g for Ettan) according to this can of Canadian skoal.

I understand TSNA is only part of the equation in terms of risk, and this doesn't make dip any safer in terms of periodontal health but it is nice to see the dip companies cleaning up their act and trying to produce a safer product ^^

    http://bookshop.rcplondon.ac.uk/cont...18f017edce.pdf

new TSNA findings help support the statement on pg146 of the above pdf 'the standardised incidence rate [for oral cancer] was not increased among smokeless users'

    http://rodutobaccotruth.blogspot.com...ltria-and.html

Rodu even has studies posted on his blog that prove no increased risk of oral cancer among listed products and lowering current TSNA makes no sense (why lower an already immeasurable risk), also helps to prove above TSNA is a safe level

Good to know. I guess they finally realized it's better for business if their product doesn't kill paying customers lol.

Harm-Reduction is a great thing. No tobacco is 100% safe, but you can make it a safer product. Thanks for the info!

That is the first step to ultimately being able to give up if you so wish. It was one of the reasons I stopped smoking and my dentist has told me my mouth is cleaner now (as I brush my teeth more thoroughly now as a result) so it has other knock on benefits

And that's an important note, too. While TSNA content in dip may be approaching that of Swedish snus, be aware that dip causes an acidic condition in the mouth just due to the way in which it is produced(fermentation vs. steam-curing, sugar/sweeteners, etc). If you're going to dip(and I enjoy the occasional dip myself, especially when between snus orders), step up oral hygeine by a factor of three or so...

              It's not all about TSNAs.

Hypothetical: Two identical twins (genetically indistinguishable at birth) have both used Skoal since the age of 16, but twin A uses twice as much. Twin B, however, is emotionally unbalanced due to tragedies in his life. By the time they are both 40 years old twin B develops fatal mouth cancer.

IMO health is holistic, your emotions and mind play a crucial role in your bodily health and defences. We've all heard of people getting cancer/dying after emotional trauma/bereavement.

I don't disagree, but a hypothetical anecdote is about as weak a case as can be made in health science.

Hypothetical: Twin C criticizes Vulpes about fictional anecdotes. Twin D eats nothing but smegma for 15 years. Twin C contracts Ebola, while Twin D finds 10 rolls of Gotlandssnus Gold lös packed in dry ice at his door. By the time they're forty, Twin C is still apologizing for the unintentional flame war, and Northerner only ships to Sweden.

                Conclusion: Twin E still hasn't revealed to C & D that they're really triplets.

It is important to remember that this stuff is sweet, and unrefrigerated on the shelf, with no pasteurization at all. I mean there is a reason I avoid it. There are 50 different cans in every store I go in, not one can of Swedish snus, that has to change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And 10 rolls of Gotlandssnus Gold Los............. That's just cruel to the rest of us!

                      Hahaha

I guess my point was that all things are ne'er equal, and emotional imbalance is just as likely to facilitate cancer from tobacco than the tobacco intrinsically.

agreed, for the sake of oral hygiene i could only use a few cans of dip a year

To add to what whalen said...........after 25+ years of dipping one thing I do know............ is that there is more to consider when comparing snus and dip than merely TSNA

and it is the "what else" in dip that concerns me
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers
