    Redman Chewing Tobacco

Right now I am sitting here with an Oliver Twist Tropical in and I love it. Smeden sent me a bunch of cans from Denmark along with some other tobacco rolls that are quite interesting. So I have a bunch of Oliver Twists, enough for a few months I think. Plus, I have a refrigerator full of Snus.

I tend to like the Oliver Twists.... but as Tropical Bob pointed out, they are not exactly cheap. Not too bad, but when you can get a can of longhorn straight for 1.25, that seems like such a steal.

So I got to figuring that I like Oliver Twists and they are 'chewing tobacco'. People who chew Redman Chew seem to adore it. They say it has a raisiny taste. I love raisins! I have never tried Redman Chew and I wonder how easy it is to use. Can I take a small pinch sort of like an Oliver Twist roll and keep in there in my mouth? Can I use it more or less spitless? (I don't even spit with dip now really, not much).....

Swedish Match makes Redman and it has the lowest TSNA's around. If it is tasty, and I can find a way to discretely use it, I think I might like it.

Have any of you all tried Redman Chew? How do you use it? Can you use just a little? I hear its weaker than dip. Dip kicks my ass and I like something a little weaker.

    thanks!

Be aware that chewing tobacco is VERY VERY VERY sweet, and contains almost no nicotine--because of the way it's cut.

There's no way to really use it discreetly. It will make you salivate and the juices are kinda nasty. One of the only tobacco modalities I never got into.

I wouldn't worry about TSNAs in American oral tobacco. Even in the worst cases, they're only a little higher than snus. That said Levi Garret's much better than RedMan imo. I've never used tiny bits of it. I always use the standard amount and spit. I would suggest finding a nice quiet spot in the woods, grab yourself a pouch of Levi, and give it a go. I like chew on very rare occasions, and I think it's a must try for users of oral tobacco.

lxskllr is right. You gotta use a wad of the stuff in order to enjoy it like it's meant to be enjoyed (and get a decent amount of nicoteen). The slew of brown spit produced is both impressive and manly  (ever seen "The Outlaw Josey Wales" with Clint Eastwood?) I used to like Lancaster chew, but havent chewed since I was in the Army. I seem to remember that Redman was ok and I did like Levi Garret as well. All of it is very sweet however. Definetly the oposite end of the tobacco spectrum from snus. I'm surprised our friends from the deeper south have not chimed in yet.

I tend to use Stokers TN Chew (original). It tastes pretty nice and is cheap (like $16 per pound).

But It is few and far between that I pack a cheek. A pound bag will last me 2-3 months.

I will say that Levi and Redman are the top picks here in Savannah and the surrounding areas.

I never spit when i use chaw. tecnicle term for long pouch form tobacco. I slam a knot of chaw in my mouth chew it tight and tuck her in my cheek. then roll er around and squeeze it with my teeth. once I've worked up a hearty mouthful of slimy black tea I gulp it down. I suck on that stuf until it come out limp and spent. Next I go find one of those huge koshir dills and nosh on that sucker before washing it down with the pickle juice. I'll normally get a few slim jims on my way to the drugstore and eat those. Next spirit of epicach. Down the whole bottle and chase that with clamato with extra olive juice. Finally puond a quart of whole milk and go jogging. By then I'm ready to take a nice peaceful nap.

I picture Jack Nicholson saying the above 8) (perhaps you could get him to play your part in the memoirs  )

Maybe a hard plug would be more comparable to Oliver Twist? I never had Oliver Twist, but I do have some coming from a trade. But the plug tobacco is a compressed block, and pieces can be cut off. I think I bought a plug back in the 80's just curious about it. But seems that would be more like it.

OT is really nice. Usually a plug is the square block that you can take a bit off. They are not that hard actually. One other type is called cottonboll. This is a large diameter twist - maybe inch thick - dry as a bone (at least the one I got) and harsh. Not sweet like redman. That's what I know about this stuff.
