    The Dip Thread

Just thought a generic thread might be useful, for whatever dip topics, or rants, and thoughts.

I've never been a regular dipper. Tried it maybe 2 times as a teenager, but didn't like it. I smoked back then till my 30's, it was about 1999 I quit smoking fulltime, and would only smoke on ocaasion.

It was last year I found out about snus, and while I didn't take to it the 1st time, it did lead me to nasal snuff, and then I gave snus another try, and liked it.

So, I snus now regularly, but I am open to try other stuff now and again. My nasal snuff use has it's peaks and valleys, as after a while it doesn't positively affect my sinueses.

Anyway to get back on the use of this thread, I was curious to try some Copenhagen Snuff dip. Oh, I forgot to mention, I would, and still do occasionally dip Scotch Snuffs, guess it was earlier in the year I 1st did that. But back to Copenhagen Snuff, I was curious to try it in dip fashion. So I printed out a coupon on their website and got a can yesterday.

I had a snus yesterday morning, but then started on this Copensnuff after breakfast. I don't wanna call it Cope, as that's another different line, made by the same company, which I hear is being discontinued.

Anyway, this Copensnuff is not bad at all. The taste is really good. I have not had much dip experience to compare, usually I'd get an odd can, and it'd end up in the trash, last one that went that way was Redman Wintergreen. Also, since I have snussed regularly, even with starks, my nic tolerance has built, and previous dip experiments left me ill feeling. I have not felt ill at all with this Copensnuff.

Like los, this is not something I'd do out and about, or at work, as the mess factor seems worse with dip. It's not a mudslide, it's a possible whole mouth mess of tobacco bits, plus the need to spit. Which is all fine and acceptable when I am home messing about.

Being a dip novice, alot of it has been just doing it. I find it holds it's place best in the bottom front. I tried more to the side, but it was hard to keep in place, it also may be because I am using the fine cut snuff, maybe the Long Cut would hold better.

I suspect this can will last about as long as a can of los for me, esp if I only use it at home.

I know many are heavy anti-dip, and that's fine, but I don't think it will be a problem for me, if I switch it up like I will. I also may not get another can, but maybe I will.

As I am in this phase, I feel like I would like to try the CopenLC, and also curious about Skoal Key, and Skoal Classic LC.

Having visited SMPOST a few times, some brands just seem to be juvenile sounding, like Grizzly, I just have a hard time saying and typing "Grizz". But Copen seems a mature brand, and maybe Skoal.

So, does anyone else here dip? What is your fave brands? What's your general way of doing it? And any comments?

I dipped Copenhagen for 15 years. Started with Skoal and tried most of the other options available at the time. I switched to cigs exclusively for about 15 years, now I'm onto snus and snuff. Since beginning snus I felt the urge to try dip a few times. Only I upper lipped it. Still can't handle the whole spitting thing, but if snus ever goes away I could switch back to dip.
Copenhagen is the oldest brand and to me the ultimate in dip. There is just something about the taste.
The new Cope wintergreen is just merely OK, nothing special.

When I dipped my go to was Skoal Original Fine Cut followed by Cope Snuff. With practice it gets easier to keep together fine cut. Use small pinches at first to get used to keeping it in place and a two finger/thumb claw grab to get it there. At first I was only good at keeping it up front but soon got good at keeping it anywhere and actually moving it around a bit.

Classic is like a crappy version of Copenhagen.

Since starting snus full time, I have no urge or desire to go back to dipping.
Too many gum and lip problems for me.

I do like a nice chew every couple of months though but I take one and wind up throwing out the rest of the bag.

Today, I bought a can of Skoal Classic Long Cut. I think I actually like this better than Copensnuff, as it has a similar taste, but the long cut really does make it like 100 times easier to use. It'll be a few days to use these 2 cans I have, but the next one I want to get is CopenLC.

I was looking for Skoal Key, but the store didn't have that, as it is, I am glad, as I really like this, and I think I prefer the LC.

I always liked copenhagen or skoal wintergreen orginal fine cut. Copenhagen won for me in the flavor and nicotine department. Never really been a full time dipper but I do have my spells. At one time Copenhagen got very expensive, this upset me because I am a cheap bastard and the stuff is made in my city. So I looked for alternatives and found one. Grizzly Natural Fine Cut.

Grizz is not nearly as fine cut as Copenhagen, more of a rough cut. I now like the flavor of Grizzly alot more than Copenhagen. You can get it for like $1.79 a can. Try it out when you are in the mood to slobber around the house.

I hate Copenhagen snuff (fine cut) just never been on to actually keep it together. Long cut is the definite way. Give it a whirl when you find yourself in the mood.

Skoal Key is nice. Don't really see it too often though. Here's it's like a surprise buy. You'll see 50 of them and the next day they're sold out. I think (and straining my brain on this) Skoal Classic also provides the natural tobacco taste (which you mentioned and I didn't notice).

Grizzle and TimberWolf *Natural* have the tobacco taste. Remember look for the *Natural*. IMO TimberWolf is really really good for it being a cheaper brand. And yeah as Bad said Grizzly is a rough cut. I think it maybe a stronger taste as well, ah I can't remember.'

Copenhagen makes pouches as well. Which can be used in both upper and lower lip (The upper lip tastes really nice, I've found out) But its like having a Maxi times 2 up there. and can easily be swallowed if swallowed often instead of waiting until you have a cup of spit in your mouth (which applies to all smokeless tobacco I guess. Wait until you have a cup of snus spit in your mouth and swallow it all at once, WHOA the burn!)

Its such a shame not many people were able to try Copenhagen BLACK. Which was bourbon flavored. But what I loved most about was it was a Mid cut. Not fine, not long, just right. The taste was absolutely wonderful and the can was kick ass too.

I've been tempted to get a tin of Copenhagen snuff, but haven't as of yet. I've had a few pinches in the past, and it left a favorable impression, but I never had my own tin. I think it might be something I'd get, and then never use, so I'd be wasting my money. That's what happened to the Redman dip I got once. I used a couple of pinches, and the rest dried out. I thought the Redman was too flowery. It reminded me a bit of Kronan in some respects.

I dipped Skoal years ago, when it only came in 1 style. I liked it well enough at the time, but I've always had an uneasy relationship with wintergreen. During that period Hawken was released, and I got some free samples. That stuff kicked my ass, and I got sick as a dog from it. That ended my dipping career, and put wintergreen permanently on my shit list.

The natural flavor alone is something to be amazed by, You can nicely taste that barrel aged tobacco in each pinch. Copenhagen LOOOOOOOOOOONG ago used to come in plugs as well (the little bricks) But that has long since gone away. Hell that was back when their logo was "THE BEST SNUFF EVER MADE". But anyways.

Still like the long cut the best. Someone needs to be bold enough to dry it out, grind it further and snort it. I sure as hell am not going to dare that, lol.

Confession thread I´m stuck on Skoal straight (pouches), i´m a portion guy...i used Skoal for the first time when i visited Texas -08, really liked the taste and the size of the pouch..i use it as snus, upper right side and have no "spitting" problem....And the combination of an Ice cold Dr Pepper and a pouch of Skoal is outstanding...yummy

So, from what I gather here, the "flavor" or stlye of regular Copenhagen is "Natural", same with Skoal Classic LC? So, I think I prefer this. I'm not a "flavored" fan really. And "Straight", how do these differ from "Natural", I'm guessing they are mainly sweetened? So, if I am right, I should check out Grizzly Natural Long Cut as well?

Other than the challenge of keeping the Copensnuff together, I really do like the taste of it, which, as I already said, I thought was similar to the Skoal Classic LC, which I think I liked more, because it stuck together really well, and I could even drink with that in.

                          Straight is sweetened and spiced.
                          Natural is authentic tobacco taste.
Its just how they label it.

But Straight is a unique flavor all in its own. Wouldn't hurt to try it out within the year sometime. But I'd suggest Skoal Straight for that, its the most popular straight flavor.

Yeah, I was just looking at the dips on Northerner to get an idea of what I might wanna get next. And I was thinking I'd like to try Straight. The metal topped Grizzly can just called Snuff, I am guessing that's fine cut Straight, right? And the other can was long cut, and then it had long and fine Natural.

I can't believe I went from regular smoker, to occassional smoker, to failed try of snus, then to nasal snuff, then to succeed snus user, and now to dip.

What what I saw everywhere the type in the metal tin gets better reviews that the stuff in the plastic tin. However I don't really know what the difference is. I believe the metal tins have fine cut and pouches. I know pouches because those are tasty little treats imo.

Ya wanna try tobacco in all its forms? Go ahead and experiment! If you love tobacco there's no harm in having something new every so often! I'm happy your not being one sided with it.

Northerner has a really good selection and they separated it very nicely. There are alot more brands out there but those are the "All American mainstay" brands (I just got around to browsing through it).

PS: I'd LOVE to try that predator dip. Sounds interesting and the can design is freakin' awesome. If you, or anyone else, can easily get their hands on it down south. PM me! Lets work a buy/trade out!
