    A snuser's guide to dip?

    Firstly, Hi everybody!

Ive been using snus on and off for the last 4 years or so but living in the Uk and Sweden during that time, I have never tried dip before and would at least like to try it!

I am aware of all the health implications of dip in comparison to snus and what not but going on the Northerner website and seeing them all, I am completely intrigued!

    So.. what's a good dip?!

My favourite snus at the moment is Röda Lacket and Claq Qui

I hope i've not blasphemed by asking this question!

This might be better in the "Other Tobacco" section, but I'd recommend the very popular Copenhagen Long Cut. Skoal Classic is also very good. Then there are the many flavored types, but I'm not inclinded to those. I liked best, the long cut "natural", which the 2 I mentioned are.

But I recently quit using dip after my brief trial, as the small cut tobacco, I just found hard to control in my mouth. Now I just use loose leaf chewing tobacco when I'm not using snus.

Yeah, I only realised there is a thread for dip after I posted this!

Powers that be: Feel free to move/delete this post.

The chewing tobacco, do you actually chew it or just settle it somewhere in your mouth? I think thats what i'm most intrigued about, I think I might buy a bag of Red Man. Proper cowboy stuff eh? :P

About 6 months after I started using snus I tried Copenhagen long cut and snuff and was instantly hooked, I wish they could replicate a snus with this flavor. I have tried pretty much every brand and flavor and I have to say Grizzly Snuff, Grizzly Long cut Straight and Grizzly Long cut Wintergreen are my favorites by far, and I never even liked wintergreen flavor before.

Not only is Grizzly much cheaper, the strength and quality are top notch also. I will warn you though, dip is much more addicting, at least for me it is. I forced my self to cut back to just twice a day because extra sterk snus was like using a mini to me. I think quitting it completely is going to harder than it was for me to quit smoking, which was easy with the help of snus.

I think everyone should try Copenhagen at least once in their life... to me it is really hard to beat as far as flavor and nicotine kick go.

I prefer the longcut, because the regular stuff tends to get in between your teeth and is easy to accidentally swallow. My uncles used to call me a sissy for not using the regular stuff- I dunno it was their ultimate test of manhood or something. In fact I remember when I was about 9 or 10 years old they used to give me a little pinch and laugh their asses off as I tried to man-up and keep myself from puking after it got allover the inside of my mouth and eventually down my throat.

You don't actually chew it you take a pinch and place it between your bottom lip and gum and spit the juice out as it builds up. Some people swallow the juice, but I would get really bad heart burn whenever I did that- one of the reasons I really like snus- not really all that juicy.

For the loose leaf chewing tobacco, the kind that is in a bag, or pouch, you don't chew it like gum, but let it sit in your jaw area, and gnaw at it, and chew it too a bit, but it's not like gum, in that you don't chew it constantly, but more for gnawing it down some, and for flavor.

There really is alot of different types of dip put there.. I dipped for 4 years before I found snus. If you are looking for some cheap dip go with some grizzly natural, or some long horn. But if you want something a little better try some cope or some skoal. However skoal is a much smoother grind than cope. If you are first starting out I would recommend skoal straight because it wont be as tough on your gums. I like to buy some skoal peach and straight and mix them up a little... really good!

I also wanted to point out, to newbies, that "Straight", is not straight tobacco flavor, it's like a sweet, spicey, smoky, hard to describe flavor. Soemtimes I thought I liked it, then others times I felt I did not. The "Natural" is more a seasoned tobacco, which is what I preferred. Also when it says "Fine Cut" or "Snuff", that means it's really small cut, maybe like coffee grinds, and "Long Cut" is a bit bigger, but still small, and different brand's cuts will vary too. Some are more a mid cut.

This thread has crossed the thin line of BLASPHAMY

Try Copenhagen, Timber Wolf, and Red Seal but your lip is going to fall off
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I'm not a dipper, but I'd get Skoal Classic(that's the original right?), and Copenhagen snuff. They're the 2 oldest that are on the market. I used to dip Skoal years ago. It only came in 1 style then :^D When I try something new, I prefer the most classic representation first. That didn't really happen with snus, but I was going in blind. Knowing what I know now, Ettan lös would have been my first snus.

I loved Skoal straight until it went up to nearly $7.00 when I lived in NY. I switched to Grizzly straight.

I've been getting Skoal lately about once every six weeks. I get the straight but sometimes Cope long cut. Someone commented on the Peach and I think I'll get that on the next road trip. I remember that being very good. They have Berry, Apple (also good), and others. I think they've got the tastes nailed down if you're into the occasional flavored thing.

As for nicotine I have to say that Timberwolf hit the hardest IMO. Not sure if you can get that at Northerner. A very nice variety of dip is available locally here. Chew is nice too but I tend to go overboard with that so I don't get it often and there's less of a selection readily available.

The spitting and the gum wrecking renders is unusable for me on a daily basis any longer. Snus is much much better IMHO though it's not as much of a proverbial tobacco punch in the face...which, I'm imagining we all like at some point.

Good luck and do let us know what you think of it all.

When I dipped it was Skoal Original Fine Cut Wintergreen all the time with the occasional Copenhagen Snuff. The Skoal Original has a great balance of flavor.

Both are good, but snus is better...but you will find out about the blisters and weird stuff dip does to your mouth.

I find it a little disheartening to see snus lead someone to the much more elevated health risk products. Its supposed to be the other way around. But we all want to find our own best way to enjoy ouir tobacco, so I am not judging, just hoping the OP hates dip, so he can stay healthier on snus.
