I have never dipped/chewed/chawed etc. Snus was my first non cigarette smokeless product but I have heard about the fiberglass in dip, why do they do that? That can't be good for you!

Edit: Actually I just did some checking and it appears it's a myth that dip contains fiberglass.

I would have to disagree. I guess it depends what brands of snus or dip you prefer when considering cost. I use the same amount of los snus as I do dip, 3 cans a week. The only snus I like is General Ekstra Sterk los. In my state (post-PACT + shipping) a can of GES costs me a little more than 5 bucks a can, so 15 bucks a week. I personally like Pinkerton products (Twolf, RedMan) and used them long before I found snus. A can of RedMan only costs me 2.75, so about 8 bucks a week. Dip=416 bucks a year. Snus=780 bucks a year.

That's even ordering as much as is feasible at a time to offset the shipping cost. Sure snus is a 45 gram can, and RedMan is a 35 gram can, but they last me the same amount of time because I can keep a dip in longer than a pris. I always had to spit out my pris when it would start to mudslide because I deal with the public all day and I hate portions.

Dip has never torn my lip or gums up, so I guess I'm lucky.

I can tell you right now that unless your dip is falling off the back of a truck, dipping is going to be more expensive than snus. To get the nicotine in one sterk portion, you need a pretty huge pinch of dip.
I agree with all the things that others have said about cost. Don't fool yourself into thinking that dipping is cheaper than snus.
It's true dip isn't really cheaper than snus.
I noticed a lot of you mentioned the V2 products as a cheaper alternative rather than returning to American snuff. So, just out of curiosity, I did a dry run order of Thunder ES los, and in the end it would cost me 3.38 a can vs. 2.75 a can for my RedMan.

Granted, much better than General ES los @ 5.00 a can (after taxes/shipping). But even then Thunder would cost me 98.28 more a year, and the inconvenience of being home for the delivery.

Now if I regularly dipped Copenhagen (5-6 bucks a can), I would agree that continuing to snus would be cheaper than dipping.

As far as needing a large pinch of dip to equal the 16mg/g nicotine content of a one gram portion extra stark snus, Twolf- one gram=12-13 mg nic;. So not that much difference in the nic content.

As far as American snuff having more carcinogens, I have faith that Pinkerton tobacco, being a subsidiary of Swedish Match, keeps their carcinogens/contaminants to a minimal level. Of course, it's probably not as safe as snus, but it's the closest I can get in harm reduction.

TSNA, has to have some impact. TSNA is minimized in Snus and who knows what else in production with far less documented cancer cases compared to dip.

Are you sure? Table 2 shows Timber Wolf's Total TSNA level being 3.0 and Ettan's being 1.12

Truthwolf- sure TSNA is something to look at, but the fire curing and fermentation process also helps to create other nitrosamines (not tobacco specific) and other carcinogens (the same as it does in grilled meat). I am not saying to not pay attention to TSNA or to live in fear of dip, I am just saying that it would be unwise to assume that low TSNA=safety.

Nonservium- If a can of GES lasts you as long as a can of dip, then you're in business. You also live in OK, which is pretty moderate about tobacco taxes, so you probably can dip for cheap. Most people are not in that boat, though. Especially the part about 45 grams of 15 mg/g GES lasting as long as 30 grams of 8 mg/g red man snuff.

I like the vip idea given to me. What kinds of snus can I get this way?
