Nicotine free snus and dip is like diet caffein free coke. Just eat sunflower seeds, chew gum or drink water.

I saw a can of wintergreen dip made from ginseng at my local natural grocery store. I might have purchased it if it didn't run $6 a can. Got a small chuckle out of seeing it at the checkout.

That's a little high, I mean if fake dip was like 75cents to maybe 2 bucks more people would buy it. I think it's not taxed so why does it cost so much. Same with nicotine gum why does it cost 50 bucks to make 200 pieces of gum 10-20 seems more reasonable.

Answer: It's a cash cow for GSK and other pharmaceuticals. That's why they're fighting fiercely against tobacco products being labeled as "less harmful".

After seeing this thread the other day, I decided to try a non-tobacco "dip." I ordered a can of Wintergreen Mint Snuff from Oregon Mint Snuff Co.

It leaves a lot to be desired. It is very sticky, and the texture is not at all similar to any tobacco product I've ever used. It has a waxy taste and feel. There is a very slight burn to it, but not much. The flavor dissipates after a minute or two, but it's pretty weak to begin with.

I don't see it as being very effective as a quitting measure for dip. It's not very realistic, and after using it, I get the craving for a dip or snus. Haven't had any for a week, and the only time I get the urge is when using this crap. Not a very effective product, that's for sure!

OK, I wrote a big review and the darn computer died on me.
Anyway, I got Smokey Mountain Classic and Wintergreen herbal snuffs.

              Bottom line, they suck!
Classic was horrid. Wintergreen seemed to have a somewhat maybe decent flavor, but the fakeness of it ruins it. They use cayanne pepper to mimic the burn. It's made of corn silk, which just does not replicate the heft and texture of tobacco. It cost me $7 to learn that fake dip is not good, at least the 2 I have, which also killed any curiosity to try others.

All it made me wish I'd bought some real dip. These are going in the trash. I hate to waste, but there is nothing redeemable with these.

try golden eagle herbal chew...it was decently moist and had a good flavor...I enjoy it quite a bit between snus portions

Kind of like drinking diet coke or decaffeinated coffee.

After trying the 2 Smokey Mountains and hating them, I have no desire to try any more fake dip, even if another brand may make a better attempt. In fact all it did was make me want a real dip, and when I got home I had some Red Man moist snuff coupons in my mail. I pitched the Mountains, I have no desire to use them again.

I got a can of "purified tobacco" in my last order Northerner Wintergreen. It's not terrible. The best use I have found for it is leaving it next to my bed for the times I wake up craving nicotine. Purified does not require refrigeration so it's perfect for that. I noticed the only time I taste it at all is when I just woke up. Throughout the rest of my day whatever I ate, drank or snused before it overpowers the flavor. I am on the phone all day at work so I keep it in my pocket there but I usually just use Thunder mini that I keep in the refrigerator at work. I noticed when I have a regular size snus in at work it affects my speech. I am going to start using loose there when I get a few more cans.

I tried a couple of these "Hooch" years ago and almost gagged from the taste and smell. Never tried the smokey mountain or golden eagle but would bet they are in the same flavor league.

The best really is the mint snuff but you have to like mint of course.

The purified stuff is cool and I have used it for long periods (days) to take the edge off. My favorite is the citrus/menthol. I like it because the flavor is very light but lasts a long time. I am thinking that this might be a pretty decent product if you are trying to quit altogether. The 3mgs seem to be strong enough to work and no one can tell you are using these.

I just tried some HOOCH myself, I got in a sample roll and ordered a roll of "classic" which is supposed to taste like Copehnagen.....it doesn't. Truthwolf is right, mint is probably the best, followed by wintergreen. It does have a nice burn to it. It does have the consistency Copenhagen once its in your mouth. It's not the worst I have tried, I couldn't stand the Smokey Mountain stuff.

Either way I have been off my 2 can a day Copenhagen habit for 3 days now because of it. I originally came here for the nasal snuff discussion but dammit I see myself getting into snus now too. I like to think of it as quitting a habit to start a hobby

Hey, Thread. I've dipped for over 30 years and tried to quit several times. I'm trying "Chattahoochee" (Hoochsnuff.com) cherry flavored herbal snuff, mixed with my favorite - cherry Skoal. I'm down to 50% mixture now. I think this might work. It's really close to the texture of the real thing, & I'm decreasing slowly. I've had a problem quitting because I needed to stuff my gums with something. I kept going back and buying Skoal. Type in "non tobacco non nicotine dip" to Google and just keep trying different products mixed with your own flavor. It's not too expensive if you order a bunch at once. I wish you the best. I hope to be down to just the "hooch" by the end of the summer. -CoachPWS

i bet that'll work well coach. I think I'd take that approach when my time comes to quit the stuff. I haven't tried the hooch, but I haven't had a good one ever. I bought a box of Smokey Mountain once, I think there was 10 cans in there, but I'm not sure I even finished it. I think I did, but can't remember. I do, however remember just switching and when I went back to the dip it was like the first time I had sex all over again. I think a several month weening off would be best, that is if I could put up with the fake stuff. It worked to live without caffeine effortlessly anyhow.
