Yes they do! The ones I saved from last years biggest and best plant seem to give a much higher rate of germination than ones I have bought in the past.

Hmm I'm interested, Theirs a some abandoned allotment type area's in one of the communal gardens at my flat. Would need some heavy work to get it ready though. Plus i would need to get all the tools and maybe a shed. I do need things to do though.

You say they grow like weeds? Thats more my style... I'm not home all the time so...

On another note a store called spiritgarden sells Nicotina tobaccum in the uk, could that be used to make snus. I think it comes bone dry though and is still £11 per 50g.

Hi NeonMouse ... I can still send you some seeds if you like. It's a little late - but I'm sure you'd get some kind of a crop - Rustica is very fast growing compared to commercial tobacco.

I've used Spiritgarden ethnobotanicals before - they used to sell mapacho rustica tobacco - but frankly it's really expensive for what you'd get and it would be much more expensive to make your own snus than buy it! 50g would only make you just over 2 cans of loose snus. What they're selling there is just normal virginia tobacco - although it looks in the picture as if it's fire-cured - which is not what you want!

If you're looking to buy some reasonably priced top-quality whole leaf tobacco have a little look for pureleaf dot co dot uk ... the guy's called Joe and he's based in Bournemouth ... from him you can buy for £19.99 per lb (that's 450g!) he's got several varieties and is a top bloke. His stuff is much much nicer than spiritgardens too!

If you fancy the seeds ... give me a pm with an address. I'm on the road until next week but will be back home then and can send them through at the end of April.

        Cheers

The Burley and Maryland will be just plain air-cured of the type often used by snus manufacturers - the Burley would be the best for strength.

Manufacturers wouldn't use the Virginia (flue cured = slightly higher TSNAs), Fire-cured (much higher TSNAs) - I would use the virginia in a blend and a tiny amount of fire cured (spice like quantities) to give a smokey taste to a snus.

            Basically I'm still experimenting myself.

The orientals will either be air or sun-cured which would probably be OK health-wise but I've never tried making snus from them.

                Listen to Whalen!

Although I talk about it all the time I'm still pretty inexperienced when it comes to tobacco and different varieties. I have to say that I got quite a bit of nicotine from chewing twist made from the Virginia bright leaf - but burley should be stronger.

The Virginia tastes absolutely delicious on it's own - like a butterscotch factory in a hay meadow!
