Anyone in the UK looking to make their own?

    Hi there,

Just a little heads up to the fact that one of our online shops here is selling "scrap" virginia bright leaf tobacco for £9.99 per lb (450g) bag - half the usual price. While this is probably less than perfect to smoke - it will make no difference if you're grinding the tobacco up in to flour to make snus from.

Remember that 1lb of tobacco makes about 2.2lbs of finished los snus ... that's about £100 worth of Ettan at today's prices! So by having a go at making your own and a little time and effort can save you up to 90% of the price of snus. Check out my recipes in this section of the forum and the sticky thread on how to make your own at the top.

The tobacco is available from http://pureleaf.co.uk/scrap-leaf/29-...rightleaf.html

    Cheers

Virginia = Flue cured Bright tobacco

Flue cured tobacco is much higher in sugar, and lower in nicotine, so it is not traditionally used for making commercial snus because the sugar gives microorganisms an easy energy source, and snus is needed to be completely sterile, and most snus is a higher nic dose. Doesn't mean you can't use it, because it's still tobacco that is also very low in TSNA's & PAH's (the bad stuff)...it's just not mainstream. Air cured tobacco is the choice for snus because it's higher in nicotine and very low sugar and very low TSNA's & PAH's as well.

I've made some very nice snus from pure flue cured virginia. In fact the best translation of the original Ettan recipe uses mainly virginia tobacco and from the recipes I've made you get a nice chocolatey aromatic snus. It's not the strongest stuff in the world - but it's good ... I think this scrap is from the same batch that I had the whole leaves from - it's only tobacco with no added chemicals.
