Alright. I took it out of the jar and kneaded it for about five minutes and it greatly improved the texture and the flavor. For a first batch I’m happy, I know what I want to mess with for flavor in the recipe. Also got a couple small whole leaf orders coming in for my next batch to taste some recommended blends here in this forum.

Overall, it’s a little too sweet and has a bitter aftertaste that I think I can remedy on my next batch…so here’s to another rabbit hole to get lost in lol.

Follow the white rabbit, Neo. You are the one to save snuskind. We are all counting on you.

Batch one has been binned. No saving it, too much PG/VG and licorice root made it sickly sweet, and using only burley made it bitter.

Batch 2 came out better but it is very cigar like. Like chewing on the end of a dark cigar. I like it, but not all day…looking for a slightly milder base using the cigar leaf as a condiment.

I will use this batch in rotation though so it may be a bit before I get to batch 3.

If at first you don't succeed.....order some snus.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Havent bought baccy and played chemistry, but was thinking of adding vanilla extract to a plain Los like Prima to see what happens. Vanilla Extract is going on the next buy list.

Btw, where you buy your PG/VG flavoring I take it?

I got a 60/40 food grade pg/veg blend from Amazon, and I use baker’s extracts. The flavors aren’t as strong as an essential oil, once I run these out I’ll do some more searching for something else.

Batch three is an attempt at a Skruf clone. Good rose and bergamot, and I feel I nailed down the tobacco base blend I like. I did make it with 40% cognac and wasn’t going to flavor it, but the cognac did not come through as a flavor. I am concerned that if I want an alcohol themed snus I will have to add the alcohol post cook and let it evaporate , with a potential for a small alcohol percent in the final product.

Batch 3 still needs another two weeks of maturing with the flavors in it but I do think it is good as it is now. Generally maturing for 2 weeks is sufficient IME but in my last batch at the 4 week mark was where it really settled down into the final form, at least for me.

Last night I did the same batch (batch 4) using all water and although the cognac influenced the flavor of the recipe, I like my percentages in a water only batch, and the preliminary data is showing that as this matures it will be a good candidate for the elusive Gotland Gul clone. I think the tobacco blend will mature into something very reminiscent of the Gotlandsnus tobacco base and give those darker notes to the bergamot lift.

as I remember, when Jimmy was active on this for him, he stated that the only flavoring added to the Gul was bergamot, and stated their tobacco blend was a major contributor to the overall flavor profile.
