OK, made 4 trial cans today. My conversions of liquid amounts came out a bit different than Chadizzy's- 8 to 10ml of liquid total, with .4 to .8 ml flavoring. I based this on the recommended amounts for the whole bucket, which makes 20 cans, so I just scaled down to 1/20 of listed ml. I just used tap water, because this is just a trial run and I have a water filter on my kitchen faucet.

I used an 10ml oral syringe for measurement. I used the median amount of liquid, so I can adjust accordingly. (9ml total liquid, with .6ml being flavoring)

I made 4 different types: Menthol, Citrus, Smoke, and Vanilla Cola. Despite my best efforts, some portions are very wet while others are almost dry. I just rearranged them and put them in the fridge. After a day or so, I'll probably mix them up a bit, to ensure even distribution.

Friday they should be ready, and I will post back with first impressions.

For the second batch, I hope to have suitable store-bought alternatives for flavor.

I used 10 ml of water and .5 ml of flavor...way too much! Oh well, that's the best thing about this, experimenting and adjusting. Hopefully others will jump on the bucket bandwagon, I see a "Mad Scientist Box Pass" in the near future.

I would really like to try this but I'm afraid I'll f... it all up and waste good tobacco. Is there a step by step tutorial with the kit?

No instructions, just the website, the one that Chad posted on the first page here. BUT, think of it this way, LaZeR, you get darn near 500 portions, if you experiment with say 10 portions at a time...that will give you 50 chances to f#*$ things up! LOL - I have a feeling you would do fine though. I messed my first batch up, just added too much water and the fix for it is simple, I just suck it up and use the soaking wet portions.

The directions as I understand them calls for 8-10ml TOTAL liquid, with 10 ml being sopping wet portions. Example: You want to use 8ml liquid because you like your portions on the dry side. You could use 7.5ml water and .5ml flavoring, to make 8ml total moistness added. I used 9ml because that is right in the middle of suggested amounts. With 10.5ml, as posted above, you probably had some soggy portions.

I realize you probably know all this now, I'm just posting clarification for those who have yet to experiment.

I love the idea of the "Mad Scientist Box Pass", but it'll take a lot of trust in our members since all samples will be homemade by strangers and there will be issues of sanitation and allergies to deal with. I suggest maybe a "Recipe Swap" kind of thing.

any tips on getting more even coverage? even with mixing every day I'm getting very inconsistant flavoring.

my current method is to put 9ml of water and flavor (I'm currently using about .8ml flavor) into the bottom of a snus can and then lay 24 portions on top of that. put the lid on then put the snus can in the fridge upside down. then about every day I mix up the portions.

I guess I could just lay out all the portions and shoot .4mls on each one, but that seems rather tedious

BTW after making a mess trying to measure things out for my first can, I picked up a 3ml syringe with markings at .1ml, this makes measuring things out easy with no mess. you can also get them with .01ml markings though in smaller total volume if you want things that precise (I'm not there yet

I mix up my flavor and water first then pour that into a travel-sized spray bottle that I picked up at Walmart for appx. $1. It takes a few extra minutes as the liquid comes out of the sprayer in a fine mist, but this ensures even distribution. I'm thinking of getting a few more spray bottles because it is even more work to wash in between each flavor. I am sure I put way too much effort into this, but it's worth it in the end. Or you could just do what I did with my first batch, use way too much liquid, your portions will be equally flavored but also dripping wet! <--not recommended.

O.K. I've been messing with the SnusX. As others have noted elsewhere this stuff has a pretty strong, skanky smell. It smells kind of artificial. The portions aren't bad and seem consistently filled, but I did find a few broken ones already.

I just flavored a can with the "Gruv" flavoring and have been letting it sit a day. I used .3 ml of flavoring and 8 ml of water and used a dropper to put about .3 ml on each bag and a little spread evenly over the can. They are getting more consistently wet and today I took each portion out and fluffed it to get the moisture more even. I then sprayed the can once or twice and then the lid. The taste from my fingers is starting to taste more like snus, but it is sweeter, more perfumey than I expected.

I tried one out of the can and I can safely say I wouldn't use these plain. Weird flavor. No flavor, but an artificial, flowery taste. The portion was comfortable enough and seemed to have an average nic hit. I would guess that these would taste better with stronger flavors and flavors that need a bit of sweet to them. But I'll let you know in a couple of days how the "Gruv" flavor pans out.
