I have never really looked in this section of the forum so sorry if this has already been addressed. As a california resident and a several times bomb danky pot grower, can tobacco be grown hydroponicly or in any way be bred to create more nicotine like pot pants are bred to grow with more THC?

It can be done but it's not very practical because of the size of the plant.

They easily grow to be 6 foot tall and spacing between plants is 24-36 inches. That makes your plants very top heavy so you'll have to figure out some kind of way to support them if you are growing hydroponically.

I'm growing TN90 in a 2-gal hydroponic drip system and at the rate this plant is growing, I am not sure this system will be large enough for it. I've read that plants started in a hydro system can't be transported to a soil medium, so the plant has been sentenced to life in a hydro-container. Sgreg - as far as nic content, I have no clue but I can say that my plant is a beauty! No chemicals & no pests & only organic food. I highly recommend trying hydro as you can control the environment. Rustica would probably be the better/smaller option though, I don't know what the hell I was thinking starting a plant that grows at least 6'!

I killed my new T5 light system!! I did exactly what the instructions said not to do, I plugged it into the wall with the light switch in the ON position. I immediately called my hydro supplier and explained my stupidity and without hesitation, he told me that the warranty is FIVE years, so within an hour, he had sent me out a replacement! I am so happy that I just had to share this news! My plant is doing awesome too, it will just have to suck it up for a day until the new light arrives. Still no pests, leaves are huge and a dark, beautiful green..I totally recommend hydro!

It looks like you can do this cheaper then I would have expected. I thought those lights were really expensive.

I'm in the planning stages of a hydroponic project, I don't know yet when I will start but I know I'll be doing it
Tobacco plants are too big to be grown indoors (except maybe Rustica), so this is going to be done outside in the Florida sun.
So not only do I have to figure out how to support a +/- 6 foot plant but I also have to worry about the temperature of the nutrient solution.
It's going to be a challenge but it will enable me to grow Dark Air Cured varieties of tobacco that normally couldn't be grown down here.
I got 2 variteies planned for my intital experiment.
Nicotiana Rustica because it's the smallest and Little Orinoco which is the baby of the Sun Cured Virginia tobaccos.
