    Home made nasal snuff

Sorry if there's a thread on this, I didn't see one at least in this section.

A couple weeks ago I pulled some of the smaller lower leaves off my plants so they could focus on the big leaves. I dried them just for practice since I've never color cured tobacco before. Anyways some of them were brown and dry so I ground them up with a mortar and pestle. I didn't think to re-moisturize it and took a couple toots. Oops pretty much right to the throat. Adding some moisture now. Fun to finally make something from my own baccy

I made my own snuff from nicotiana rustica leaves sold at www.toquesnuff.com
. It's normally used to make pesticides-lol. It was intense stuff at first but mellowed out after a few months of age. Be patient and you will be rewarded...

Right on. I have some rustica going but it's not color cured quite yet.

Vegan, tastes kinda green (there is no age on this baccy). Definitely nicotine in there. I'm just getting started. I have 7 varieties growing so it should be fun trying them all as snuff, pipe, and snus. Maybe roll a cigar too.

I've heard of air curing, fire curing, and sun curing, but what is color curing?

Color curing is just the initial drying out of the leaves. The goal is to have them dry brown instead of green. Actual curing would come after that.

Thats it. I am growing tobacco next year. I just hope that deer don't like the plants.

The deer around here will eat just about anything, but they don't go in my backyard so I'm not sure. I'm letting one of each variety go to seed so I should end up with a 7 gazillion seeds for the future.

Deer can be fierce! I bought 2 Bay Trees last year. One California Bay and one Italian Bay. The clerk assured me that deer do not snack on Bay trees because they smell so strong. Sure enough, the deer ate most of both trees. They like to eat the new growth and never give the trees a chance to grow up. I love the smell of Bay and will probably buy bigger trees next year. I got them in 5 gallon pots because I was trying to be cheap.

The one I tried was DF911 Dark and I ground up some Black Sea Samsun. Put each in a smash box with the lids open and put those in a tupperware with a little water at the bottom and put the lid on. Works great. This baccy is too grassy flavor wise but it's certainly snuff. I got a pretty damn fine grind on it.

Even using only "deer resistant" plants that I know they usually don't eat they'll still go after new plantings or randomly just reek havoc. You can put chicken wire around them to keep them out but it's ugly.

Just remembered that I got this mortar and pestle 2 years ago so I could make my own snuff. Back then I tried it with American Spirit baccy from a cig. It wouldn't grind up in there. And it seemed stupid. So I put it away until today. Now I know the baccy I tried before was not dry enough. I've learned alot about moisture content since then.

The leaf of Black Sea Samsun Doesn't smell as green as the rest. I put it in a tupperware along side a couple drops of vanilla extract and some cinnamon. It's pretty good. And it's potent

Sounds pretty good Snuffy. I have a chew twist I've been wanting to grind into snuff, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I may have to try growing some plants next season. Reading your guys planting tales have really got me interested.

In this area, the deer have a definite preference for Turkish. Perhaps the Virginia was a tad too strong for their tastes?
