    Navy Sweet Scotch Dry

I found this at a local tobacco shop in Quakertown, PA. I am new to snuff I tried Silver Dollar years ago but couldn't get the hang out it.

This is just about the worst beginners snuff possible! Extremely fine and dry the slightest inhalation through the nose sends it right down into your lungs. I've only had success with sealing my nose with my thumb covered in snuff and breathing through the other nostril. Then I pinch my nose and I'm off to the races.

This has a wonderful aroma. Sweet and smokey like Latakia pipe tobacco. Some mesquite BBQ notes. It is a mix of domestic and imported tobacco I would guess Kentucky Burley and some Turkish leaf. The nicotine content is pretty high too.

That was my very first snuff also! I was a newbie and took a sniff while driving and had to pull over with a complete conniption fit! There are better American snuffs, Rooster, Red Seal, lots of others.... That was about 5 or 6 hundred snuffs ago. Play around and try all you can, but the American snuffs pack a punch. Three thistles is a good one too.

To me Toque offers a lot of beginner flavors but does not always have a beginners grind/moisture. None the less, I have several favorites from Toque

Samuel Gawith is just a solid traditional English snuff maker. I especially love their Blue Crest and Black Coffee.

Tube Rose was my first snuff ever. It will be well behaved as far as American snuffs go and is really unique among the American offerings. I think you will like it.

To me Tops mild (vs the Sweet) is the best American Snuff out there. It is to my nose the most complex and balanced of the Americans.

When you get around to it try some De Kralingse snuffs (under Dutch Snuff @ Mr. Snuff). They tend to be courser and are fantastic. Also Fribourg and Treyer's High Dry Toast is simply the best Snuff sold today. Viking Dark is also a really nice and unique snuff.

Anyway, get a basis of what you like and then try different types, styles, and nationalities (each country has its own unique take and approach to snuff). To me that is half the fun

you won't be near as excited as when/if you take your first toke of white elephant or dhalokia white tho.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

that style snuff is pretty common here in the south. pretty much every store sells some brand of it. when I was a kid we all tried sniffing that stuff. 50 years later I will use some nasal snuff but no scotch snuff for me. the smell reminds me of fried bacon uuuggg and the burn blows my head off haha
