    Nasal Snuff

Nasal snuff is dried, powered tobacco that is inhaled into the nose (Figure 8). Typically, a pinch is placed between the thumb and index figure, and then snorted into one nostril. The nicotine is absorbed into the blood stream through the membranes of the nasal cavity. Nasal snuff was very popular in the 19th century, but has fallen out of favor in the present day. Today, the major users of snuff tend to be crusty old fisherman, and other such salty dogs.

First time snuff users tend to have a very negative reaction, which includes violent sneezing, a burning sensation in the nose and throat, and an extreme runny nose. If you can tolerate these symptoms, and actually enjoy this stuff, then you may consider yourself the manliest of manly men. Nasal snuff is difficult to find, but can be found on the internet (along with everything else on God's green earth).

All this according to Dr. Harlan K. Upmann:
Manly Tobacco Use: Swedish Snus, Chewing Tobacco, Pipe Tobacco, Nasal Snuff...

Navy was the first snuff I ever tried. I was 13 or 14, and it just about took my head off :^D

For manliness now, I'd say it's a tie between Rooster, and Hedges for different reasons. If you take unavailable snuffs into account, Spanish Jewel takes top honors imo.

I have tried quite a few scoth snuffs and they're great.

I've heard that people used to put this fine snuff in their lip, in the ol times.

I've never seen it on the shelf in a store, but I imagine they sell it somewhere. I don't care much for Rooster. It's fairly strong in the nic dept, but has an oakiness I find disagreeable. It's usable, but not what I look for in a snuff. WE Garrett is my favorite American scotch. Nice and smoky. Tube Rose is my favorite American sweet. A bit of smoke, with some chocolate notes in the back.

I think that's primarily how it's used in America. Snuffing it is fairly archaic :^D You can pour some in your lip, or do what women do, and moisten a tree branch, dip it in the snuff, and put it in your mouth.

I've tried dipping Tube Rose a few times, but I don't really enjoy it.

Well woman got to put something in their mouth after all.

Hope there's not many on this forum.

I like how that link says that cigarette smokers are either gay men or are women that are whores.
Smoking cigarettes is only 0.5 on the manly scale.

Agreed...cigarettes not manly. One of my funniest visuals, is some buff guy smoking a cigarette, looks totally unmanly and gay.

                  I don't think it's that difficult.

Even in Romania every tobacco shop has it nowadays, I wonder who's buying except me lol

I'm as much for snus as the next guy, but the author is too politically motivated. Cigarettes an 0.5? Manliness may vary, as it does with all the products, but cigarette's coolness factor is through the roof

I've seen this 'manliest' scale before and think it's absolute BS. I didn't even want to post here because this is just bumping this stupid thread but I can't resist. This is the problem with society..labeling tobacco products as 'manly.' No wonder smoking is a 'woman' thing nowadays...it takes a pretty damn confident woman to get off the cigs and venture into the reduced-harm 'manly' realm of tobacco products. There, I've vented, I feel better!

lol... This is funny. I like desirexe's response though. This scale is kinda bs, but oh well. Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one... hopefully...

Term is still common in British usage.

It means stick or twig, as for kindling. Makes sense to call a burning stick a fag. How it was decided upon as a slander for homosexuals is the puzzling matter.

Edit: Not all too puzzling I suppose, given that "faggots" were used in the burning of heretics back in the good 'ol Dark Ages.

Edit2: OK I went all the way and hit up etymonline.com. I love etymology. http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=faggot

Edit3: Sorry to toss that term around, it was strictly for educational purposes. (And my first edit was apparently inaccurate. See link for details)
