    Kendal Snuffs.....

So I am smitten with Toque's Berwick Brown.....and I have tried a bunch of Kendal snuffs and wanted to post my pecieved differences of the ones I have ordered.

    1. Samuel Gawith KB Special.....Coal Fire ahhhhhh! It really is good, coarse, moist, smokey and tar and burning rubber.....not an all day snuff....definitely would be good for cool weather....and make sure you get the vacuum tin......not the tap box.

    2. Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown....peaKB, leathery and less smokey than the SG...moist and coarse.....less intense but not less flavorful than the SG.....great tobacco scent which seemed not present in the SG version (or hidden behind the burning coal mine).....makes me want to explore more of the brand.....

    3. Wilson's of Sharrow Kendal Brown....fine and moist with a little peat and lemon. Makes a good snuff but a little more floral and soapy....not a traditional KB but still a good snuff. I like the lemon but it reminds me of a musty sp ratner than KB.

    4. Freiborg and Treyer Kendal Brown.....this is a really good secented snuff....fine and kinda dry.....not like any of the others bit a good snuff none the less. I would buy this again but really, it has none of the qualities I was looking for in a KB.

    5. Toque Berwick Brown.....coarse but medium dry and lighter brown.....leather and peat, citrus and floral on an excellent tobacco base. Not traditional but a very well blended middle of the road for this type of snuff.

Ok. Summary time. Out of all of them the two that I will buy again is the Gawith Hoggarth and the Toque. The Berwick Brown is still an all day snuff for me and now that I have seen the offerings, appreciate what it is much more.

The F&T will probably be purchased again but not as a Kendal Brown.

Ok.....so what did I miss and what should else should I try in this style?

Try Wilson's 'Burgundy' if you haven't yet. I don't know that it is really a Kendal.....in fact, Wilson's classifies it as an SP. But it's like no other SP I've ever had, and I really love it. If you like Berwick, it should be right up your alley.

I will do that on my next order.......I want to love Wilsnons but it is just like.

I really have been digging the Samuel Gawith much more and am slowly going to try all of their black snuffs now.....I have Menthol Black and Black Rappee coming in the mail.

petition that you be designated the Snuson Grand Snuff Poobah!

Yeah I can kinda feel ya. There are some, like Burgundy, that are just outta sight, and the new Apple & Blackcurrant is great too. But I find that my most favored snuffs are still Toque.

Wilsons is kind of meh. They're the Swedish Match of snuff imo. They're competent, but predictable, and kind of boring.

I am with you on that.....Grapefruit, Blueberry, xmas pudding, Spanish Jewel are really excellent snuffs.

Soon I need to order lime toast........

But for Wilsons I just tried Tom Buck, Best SP, Grand Cairo and Kendal Brown and all of them fell kinda flat with me. I am really digging dark moist snuffs at the moment......but my all day snuff is still Berwick Brown.

Wilsons make great moist snuffs such Princes,Brunswick,Burgundy and Best Dark and in the F&T line theres also Princes and Princes Special both are perfumed but with a very rich tobacco base.

Best Dark and Santo Domingo are in my regular rotation......I went for a pound of the SD as I must always have it on hand.

Their light flothemparticularly their SP base, does not excite me, but I shall try the Brunswick, Burgundy and Princes as they do dark snuffs rather well.....I should have been more clear in what I dislike from them.

                    Wilsons is ok.................

F&T HDT is still fantastic snuff and at the top of my list

However, of late.................. I think I could live off the Molens line (with HDT and Hopfen as necessary additions)
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Yeah I tell ya what, that stuff is just sublime. It's the smell of history to me. Next time I order from Mr. Snuff, it'll probably just be some Molens Gingerbread, and the biggest can of HDT that I can muster.

I am actually on my first tin of F&T HDT and it is good.......much better than ANY American scotch or sweet I have ever had........I almost want to explore toasts.........but may not find one nearly as agreeable as the HDT.......bug I will try Lime Toast on my re up of Berwick Brown at the end of the year.........all Toques get ordered direct.
