So I am smitten with Toque's Berwick Brown.....and I have tried a bunch of Kendal snuffs and wanted to post my pecieved differences of the ones I have ordered.
1. Samuel Gawith KB Special.....Coal Fire ahhhhhh! It really is good, coarse, moist, smokey and tar and burning rubber.....not an all day snuff....definitely would be good for cool weather....and make sure you get the vacuum tin......not the tap box.
2. Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown....peaKB, leathery and less smokey than the SG...moist and coarse.....less intense but not less flavorful than the SG.....great tobacco scent which seemed not present in the SG version (or hidden behind the burning coal mine).....makes me want to explore more of the brand.....
3. Wilson's of Sharrow Kendal Brown....fine and moist with a little peat and lemon. Makes a good snuff but a little more floral and soapy....not a traditional KB but still a good snuff. I like the lemon but it reminds me of a musty sp ratner than KB.
4. Freiborg and Treyer Kendal Brown.....this is a really good secented snuff....fine and kinda dry.....not like any of the others bit a good snuff none the less. I would buy this again but really, it has none of the qualities I was looking for in a KB.
5. Toque Berwick Brown.....coarse but medium dry and lighter brown.....leather and peat, citrus and floral on an excellent tobacco base. Not traditional but a very well blended middle of the road for this type of snuff.
Ok. Summary time. Out of all of them the two that I will buy again is the Gawith Hoggarth and the Toque. The Berwick Brown is still an all day snuff for me and now that I have seen the offerings, appreciate what it is much more.
The F&T will probably be purchased again but not as a Kendal Brown.
Ok.....so what did I miss and what should else should I try in this style?
