Only on a limited basis. When snuff is in my nose, and a short time after, it affects my finer sense of smell, but it comes back quickly if I don't snuff for an hour or so. I haven't noticed any lasting decreases.

The only problem I have with nasal snuff is my tins keep turning up empty. When I find out who is doing it....they are in for it.

On the upside, there is much less fluctuation in the snus herd these days......

As for sense of smell, no loss here.

From the Washington Post. Now it official Snus is better than smoking. The James Graham Brown Cancer Center and the University of Louisville are launched a new “Switch and Quit” campaign calling on smokers to use smokeless tobacco instead.

Hi guys I am new here. I am from the US and i just started snuffing. What i was wondering how bad snuff is for you using American Snuff. It is a lot stronger than foreign snuff everyone is telling me. It also comes in 32 gram containers for the small version. I dont want snuff to mess up my since of smell or nasal cavity. Any information would be helpful. I am currently snuffing W.E. Garrett scotch snuff and dental sweet snuff.

I have a love/hate thing going on with snuff. I don't think it's harmful in ANY way at all, our history with snuff in the UK is longer than snus in Sweden i think. I'm sure i'm right in saying, there has only ever been 1 reported case of cancer from snuff use in the UK i think. I used to use lots of the stuff, the one i really loved was Taxi Red but i dont think you can get that in the UK now. I'm also a lover of a good natural toast, well, i was. I'm not sure if it was the amount i was using (5gram over two days), but over a short time my sinuses had an issue with it, and now snuff disagrees with me. If i have a little pinch i start constant sneezing and get blocked sinuse/nose. I must order some Irish D Light soon to see if that works with me, it's a lovely one!

So would you say it has messed up your sinuses or since of smell in any way?

NO ... after a couple weeks off the stuff my sinuses were back to normal, i've always had allergies since i was a kid and a super sensitive nose. It was ok for months and months, my body got used to it after a while and then one day my sinuse/nose started playing up and it was game over, so ive quit for a while

                          Hey Brad,

I'm sure Fazer is much more experienced with snuff than me, but thus far snuff seems to help my sinuses. My daily intake is a little lower than Fazer's with my average being between 1.5 and 2 grams a day. That said menthol's close me up. I gravitate toward toast which are a little easier to take than the scotch's you are using. As far as the sense of smell I have not noticed any lasting issues.

Over use and certain types of snuff can cause congestion for me.

What part of Louisiana are you from?

Thanks for the info. I just started so i have not ordered anything online yet and seeing as how so many people use other brands of snuff and not so much American snuff, or dont talk about it much it is hard to understand the differences and all. This helped a lot! I am from Baton Rouge. I go to school in Ruston, Louisiana though.

I read somewhere that there has been like one case of cancer caused by nasal snuff, by an American farmer. He put the snuff in his ear for his whole life apparently which caused ear cancer. Don't know if this is true though, lol.

Don't worry, snuff is very safe.

Thank you for the info. I am just skeptical in that i have never used snuff for one and did not think tobacco constantly being in your nose would or could be healthy for it. I was thinking along the lines of Dip (copenhagen, skoal, timberwolf, etc.) in how it wore away your gums after a while i didnt want it to do the same to my nose. I mean i do have plenty to spare (haha) but seeing as how it is not as common in the US there are not any facts really on it at all. I appreciate the help guys.
