I've been told to snuff lightly..

Sorry for all these threads, but i have many questions! And some other people may be wondering same things than me...

Back to the subject: I have read everywhere that you have to breathe in really lightly. The problem is, that i am breathing really, really lightly, but the snuff still will fly to my sinuses and throat. I am not expecting any magic trick response from anyone.. Im just wondering what i'm doing wrong here.

Does one nostril do it ok and one not? If so, just use the one good nostril.

Okay, well i can't offer any advice other than to sniff more gently. It took me a year or two to master it...

            Smaller pinch? Wet finger method?

The only other advice I can give you is to sniff lightly (but you know that already).

            Best of luck!

Wet tip of pinky. Dab lightly in snuff. Swipe gently in nostril. Breathe out through nose a time or two. Problem solved. Guaranteed.

It's something you learn with practice. Even long-time snuffers occasionally end up with snuff in the throat, but with time you will learn to avoid it.

If nothing else works, use the wet pinch technique: wet your finger and thumb before pinching, then insert the snuff-covered digits into your nostrils. Snuff delivery without sniffing at all.

Learned this technique way back when and it works like a charm!!
Otherwise my snuffing days would have ended abruptly.

                For a change-up, I'll occasionally use 2 different blends --
one for each nostril. Can make for some interesting notes.

Darwin, you posted while I composed ... that be the way you say!!

Close the airway to your throat, hold your breath and drop your lower jaw and tongue while keeping your mouth closed.

Do it once or twice without the snuff, try it with the snuff and report back.

If this doesn't do it I don't know what else to suggest.

Mike... Thank you. It worked! First time that the snus didn't fly to my sinuses! Thank you very much.

                      Nice one Mike!

I usually suggest the wet finger method to beginners, Although I don't suggest inserting the fingers up the nose. What I suggest is rubbing the thumb and forefinger into the front part of the septum. I also say that surprisingly the larger the pinch the less of a problem.

What I didn't realise is, I do Mikes method without thinking about it. A subconscious action that I now realise is a natural method that we need to share. When I take a large snuff off the back off my hand I do it that way. When I pinch I take a large pinch and place it on either side of my septum.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks, I'm really chuffed!

Glad it worked and I was able to describe that well.

I kinda gleaned that from all of the reading I have done here and on snuffhouse but it seems to not have been plainly spelled out exactly what one physically does to achieve snuffing.
