To answer your question: Nasal snuff is claimed to be the next best thing after cigarettes. Details including plasma nic levels can be found here: http://www.google.sk/url?sa=t&rct=j&...tr3zKjvWbxrSQA . I personally found it less satisfying than snus, but I have a pollen allergy and half a year my nose is blocked, so I might be "allergic" to placing any substance in there. Having said that, I still occasionally snuff Also the health risks might be lower due to negligible TSNAs in nasal snuff and tiny amounts of snuff used (I mean a gram of snuff would last much longer than one regular portion of snus, so you use less tobacco in a day, getting less harmful little biting nasty buggers in your system).

EDIT: Maybe I am just too cumbersome and never learned the proper technique of using snuff Anyway, it is definitely worth a try.

I'm down to 1 a day. I could do without that if I wasn't going to basketball games. It helps to keep a stronger than average snuff handy such as Grunt, Viking Dark or the new Dholakia Toast. Something that gives you a good hit when you need to boost the nicotine levels. Snuff usage is currently holding between 3 - 3.5 grams per day.

In high school I used to sniff huge lines of snuff (lol) for a buzz. Depending on how much you do, it's comparable to the buzz from cigarettes. However, this is a ridiculous method of snuffing and I these days I only enjoy a small pinch for the flavor.

I guess if you really wanted to switch fully to snuff you'd need around 3-4g's a day to start, 2-3g's if you used 'Quit' and then the number of pinches will drop down slowly to what ever you want. Don't forget snus is almost as safe as snuff and way safer than smoking.

I suffer from allergies to dust, fur, pollen and a lot more. For me snuff has been my saviour, I can't remember the last time I had a cold and when I did it was a one day event.

My Toque order arrived last Friday and I must say I am enjoying it very much. I have been taking a bullet of Quit and a bullet of another flavour to work with me. Quit really seems to take the edge off when the cravings begin and is a great plain tobacco taste. I'm still loving the snus so it looks like I'll be a "dual-user", at least for the next little while. But I'm really happy I've given snuff a try.

I have to say, I did not recieve much of a buzz using snuff. Altough I find it to be a real pleasant experience. I love the Molen's Prins Regent. It's like a bergamot/citrus snuff, and so wonderfully crafted. It's truly a unique experience in the flavour department. I look forward trying some toque snuffs in the near future aswell.

I´m a Newbie to snuff, about a month in and I really dig it. While at home I guess my usage of Snus and Snuff is 50/50.
And I can get a buzz out of Toque Quit, SP Extra, Natural Toast and F&T High Dry Toast.

I guess it´s becoming more and more a hobby to me!

I just wanted to add that I actually quit cigarettes with snuff, and while snuffing and reading a snuff forum, learned about snus. If I wasn't in a job where I sit with clients all day, I would probably snuff. Snus has the edge with the convenience factor in this regard. Also, snuffing and driving is damn difficult and I drive about 90 minutes per day total. With the way people drive out here, I need that nicotine to keep from running someone off the road.

I go through snuff phases now. When I was deep into it about 2 years ago I stocked up about a years supply. I've barely made a dent in that, but about once a month I will snuff my socks off for a few days and then get back to snus. Also on the rare occasion where it seems only a cigarette will do, I pull out the snuff to kill the craving. I say do what you enjoy, and enjoy it to the fullest.

The European types of snuff I've tried (all Poschl) have been pretty tame, but American scotches are the strongest sort of tobacco consumption I've come across. The tiniest pinch in each nostril is enough to make me forget about tobacco for a while and if taking a number of pinches in quick succession doesn't give you some kind of effect then I don't think anything short of mainlining nicotine will. Today I actually found myself in a state of being too high on nicotine. I wasn't remotely sick, I'd just been taking generous pinches of scotch every 30 minutes all day to get through some schoolwork and I was unable to sit still, pacing around, sweaty palms, chatty, slightly fast heart, etc. I have a very high tolerance to nicotine like most everyone else here does, I have never been in that state of mind from tobacco. Normally if I manage to take too much snus on an empty stomach I'll feel sedated and vaguely ill, but snuff has an extremely clean stimulating feeling to me.

I love taking the first few pinches in the morning. All the normal fuzzy-headedness of waking lifts like a fog, it's a great way to start the day.

I have found from my limited but greatly enjoyed use of snuff it is more energizing then other forms of nicotine. I use Oden's Extreme and Thunder all day long and that just keeps me calm and the nic cravings at bay. The snuff actually gives me a boost of energy

Next order for sure. Why is it white though? I'm very curious about how these Indian snuffs work, I have one Dholakia Black on order and it's the one I'm most excited to try. Is it true that Indians mostly dip it? Is it like scotch snuff, where it was designed to be used nasally but ended up being more commonly used orally, or is it more like snus or copenhagen where it's a snuff designed especially for dipping?

As much as I love snus it really has nothing on snuff when it comes to variety. There are maybe a few dozen snus brands out there but I feel like I'll never run out of snuffs to try.

White is called White because it is white.... (seriously)........it is more finely ground than scotches by far and has a hey smell to it

Black is ink black and also has a hey smell to it................for me it is too messy to use anywhere but at home....unless you want people to think your fountain pen blew up while stuck up your nose.

I find the scent of both of these to be a bit stringent.

White though is great to mix with other snuffs. Something like a Wilsons Tom Buck adds enough bulk to the White to keep it well behaved.....while the White will balance an over scented snuff and give anything quite a turbo boost in the nicotine department.

I mix them on the back of my hand and sniff from there………..when I want a little extra kick

That said………..the best Dholakia IMHO is Sparrow Green...............it is the curry of Snuffs.........and smells like one would think an Indian snuff should smell..............a nice blend of spicy tobacco with a good kick to boot

Regardless……don't let the horse piss soaked hey smell of the Black throw you............or the impossibility of the white daunt you.......you will find a use for them..............and may even love them as is...............many do

But Sparrow Green is the must try of the Dholakia line

I think………if memory serves me correctly……….. the White has a dual oral and nasal use while the black and Green are simply nasal only

I too started with the American Scotches..............and love them to this day (Tops plain/Tube Rose Sweet are my preferred Americans with many others playing close seconds)

If you like the Scotches try some Fribourg and Treyer High Dry Toast (it is the best snuff there is.........hands down)

                              Add to this:

Wilsons Tom Buck (for an SP type)
Molen's Ginger Bread (For a Danish offering in the true old world style)
Toque Spanish Gem (for a new take on the traditional English Snuffs by a great company)
Bernards Klostermischung (for a German style schmalzler)
                              Dholakia Sparrow Green (Indian Snuff)

These will give you a good representation of styles and a good reference point for future exploration

Thanks for the recommendations! I already have some snuffs on order for now but I'll follow your list next time. Would I be right in thinking scotches would mix well with the more heavily floral snuffs, which might be a little much for regular use? I'm really looking forward to the mixing aspect.
