    Snuff and Allergies

I've had bad allergies/hay fever all my life, however, it's got better in my adult years. Do you find it easy to take snuff or do you suffer from blocked sinuses ? I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with snuff. I have a nice little collection in my desk snuff drawer, complete with two decongestant nasal sprays, is decongestant something you use as an allergy sufferer ?

The snuffs that I can ... just about... cope with all day are...

Toque Natural Toast, Wilsons #22, F&T HDT and that’s about it! Having said that, after a of couple weeks I need a few days off... Other things from the Toque range I can also use are, Lime Toast, Toast and Marmalade, ST Clements, Whisky and Honey, Bourbon, Quit, (Spanish Gem, sometimes) and a couple others.

Anything with a strong scent is out, when I say strong scent, I’m talking about things like F&T Dr J R Justice, Morroco, that kinda thing.

So ... what do the people with allergies do ?

Do you say, "it's not for me" and give up?
Do you try and find a few you can use ?
Do you use decongestant nasal sprays?
How much snuff do you use?

I have seasonal allergies and I sometimes can't snuff because I am stuffed. A toast will clear me out pretty good though.....if I can get it in there.

Once it starts raining on the regular I am good.

I never use a decongestant nasal spray. Try a neti pot or a saline wash. Those sprays like Afrin make you dependent on them.

      Something seems OFF.

It has been a no-winter and early spring with the trees starting to bloom and I feel unusually normal.
About a few weeks ago I recovered from a month long bout of a cold/bronchitis and now just a little itch in the eyes at night. That possibly could of been my yearly suffering but I usually get the nasal drip with itchy throat/eyes and asthma feeling. Then take drugs that make me feel like walking insomnia for about two and half weeks. Usually ends when all the trees bloom.

I have however sporadically since I lost the cold been using snuff. WHO KNOWS?? it just might be helping for real.

But it seems from the look of things we are still only half way through getting all the tees bloomed. I am going to try and shoot bumps at least twice a day and hope for the best.

        @fazer

if you have sinus issues or any kind of allergies STAY AWAY from snuff -

it's most likely to make your life harder than it is, I like snuff but just can't tolerate it.

Yeah you’re probably right, but I like it. My usage is next to nothing at the moment; even with a usage that low I still get a bit congested and need a couple sprays of decongestant each day. I’ve probably got enough snuff for about 2 years, and I don’t have that much. I have about 17 25 gram tins, and a 250 gram drum of Irish D Light, so it’s more like 3 years I’d say. I’m sure I’ll still get some more, I always do

My allergy season was not that bad this year.....four weeks during the height of it.

Before snuff? Three months of misery.

For me snuff virtually cured the allergies. However a Neti-Pot also helps if my nose starts running during the night. I think at night, when I'm not taking snuff, the allergies can surface. If it's bad I sometimes have to get up, use the Neti-Pot, have a pinch and go back to bed.

I'm congested and have sinus pain for about 3 months now -

I guess the current city I live in isn't all that good for my sinuses, because of the wind and dust everywhere (I live by the Black Sea and it's always windy here ............ )

not to mention all the pollen and other things that affect the sinuses

It's been better than last year for me but still struggling with my sinus symptoms

The thing is you're not supposed to get the snuff in your sinuses. If you do the body will flush it out. Neti pots work wonders for this though.

I've also heard that seeking out and eating local honey will significantly, if not totally stop the symptoms if you suffer from the springtime pollen allergies. I'm afflicted by the dust allergies mostly now but for the past few years it hasn't been nearly as bad as I had it all of my life. Maybe it's snuff...the people on Snuffhouse thought so...but then again it's Snuffhouse.

When I skip snuff for a few days, I always seem to get attacked by allergies or colds. I have yet to get sick while using snuff...knock on wood. I am a believer that snuff helps my allergies and I never miss a day now...especially before hiking or visiting Walmart. My husband has even noticed this freakish immunity of mine and has taken up snuff hoping for the same results..so far it is not working too well for him as he has sinus issues strike every few days after snuffing heavily for a day or two. Like others have said here, I think he can't get the sniffing down and ends up blasting his sinuses with Cheetah! I have told him repeatedly to keep it in his nose..I guess he likes the eye-watering pain but I am guessing his body can't naturally expel all the excess snuff in his sinuses, so it makes him sick..my advice to him..slow down with the usage and quit sniffing so hard! I know Cheetah is a little harder to take but he loves it, there is no switching him to something heavier. Crap...what was the question??? I suck...

Get him on a "Neti-Pot" and all his sinus problems will go away. It's that simple, I promise! Doctors should prescribe Neti-Pots. Once the sinus is sorted the snuff will keep everything calm and the allergies at bay.

yep I guess just placing the snuff in the nostrils is the way to go -

it shouldn't even hit the sinuses, but then again most people sniff hard lol

This is true! My wife had surgery on her sinuses done last summer due to chronic problems. Her ENT actually suggested a neti pot several times a week, and was visibly impressed when I mentioned that I use one already and could vouch for it.

I didn't have the heart to burst his bubble and tell him WHY I use it, but..........
