The Toast & Scotch Appreciation Thread

I love toasts and scotches and I love reading people talk about their favorites. Their flavors are so complex and as your nose acclimates they only get fuller and richer. This morning I think I got closer to the full range of IHT No. 22. There's a sweetness that, combined with the toastiness, reminds me of ginger snaps with a broad but muted smokey background, and I'm starting to get a verdant earthy manure smell. That's one of my favorite things about these kinds of snuffs, they tend to have farm scents: Garrett's is like a smokehouse, Navy Plain is like a barn, and IHT is like being the ideal distance from a field of cattle.

I hope you all don't mind I've been posting a lot, I know this is a slow forum.

Edit: Apparently IHT 22 is flavored lightly with citrus. I've heard some even claim it is a toasted SP. I don't taste that at all, the only "flavor" is gingersnap, I'll have to pay attention in the future. I guess there is a flavored snuff out there I truly love.

no probs dude, it would be great if the forum would get a boost somehow, I mean the e-cig forums are skyrocketing while snus is at the bottom

what a shame..... we need more users and interaction here ;-)

I read that while fumbling a 5g tin open and onto my black shirt. Color me shocked -- my nose has much to learn. Does No. 22 really qualify as a scented toast in the same respect as, say, Toque's Whisky & Honey?

I think its Wilson's #20 that is like a toasted SP. I just finished a tin of #22 and got no citrus, but it is a great toast.

I broke in with W.E. Garrett Sweet and Scotch. It was quite the experience! By combining the two I found a snuff I learned very quickly to like a lot. (Since then, I've learned to appreciate those flavors on their own.) I suppose I could have been contented with American snuffs forever if I'd been denied the chance to experience anything else. The only problem is that they are so strong in nicotine that I can't take them as much as I like... But if I ever gave up snus and switched full-time to snuff, I'd find them essential. I've not yet tried any other American snuffs.

The only toasts I've tried are from Toque. My favorite, far and away, is Whiskey and Honey, followed by Toast Lime. They're great snuffs. I also love Bourbon, which very much reminds me of a toned down American scotch. I don't care at all (right now) for Toast and Marmalade.

Eventually, I want to try HDT and Wilson's #22...of course. Those seem to be essentials. I just have so much right now that I think I need to use up a bit of what I already have.
