Help a newbie out - Snuff

Ok, So I got my sampler pack in from Toque..

I understand about controlling my breathing. So far I've tried the Toque Lime Toast and the Toque Absinthe. I like the Lime Toast and feel more nicotine from it, but I can't even really describe it as a nicotine hit. It just feels like a pressure inside my head about 30 seconds after a hit. It quickly fades into nothing, maybe a little sleepiness/cloudiness. 15 minutes later I take another bump into each nostril, endure the pain, watering eyes, agony. But, this is unlike snus or smoking in that with the latter two, I feel like I have a very clear, sharp mind. Once I get my snus in in the morning (or in the past, cigarettes), and my nicotine level got up, I felt sharp as a whistle.

This nasal snuff makes me feel almost like a short lived high (IF I take enough of it, which seems like a LOT), followed by a pretty hard crash into a sleepy state.

I dunno. The way people wrote about how much of a rush this stuff is I guess maybe I feel like I'm doing it wrong.

I checked snuffhouse, and here, but I can't really seem to find an accurate or adequate tutorial on this stuff.

I also left them in their small plastic baggies and threw them in a tupperware container into the freezer in the same container as my snus. Am I not supposed to freeze this stuff? If not, what should I do?

I hope someone can help me... I really want to like snuff, and I do, but not for the expected reasons. Seems more like a "drug" than a nicotine relief. Matter of fact, on most ocassions I feel like lighting up a cigarette once I get the slight head rush (bad! No smokes!)..

You didn't chose the easiest to start with! Toasts are very fine not good for beginners, you need a moist snuff that is easy to take and wont hit you right in the back of the throat. You will sneeze and your eyes will water the first few times, you get used to it so don't worry.

DON'T FREEZE IT! You should keep it in air tight jars but keeping the tins unopened is ok for now. Snuff isn't for everyone, also technique you get by practice, lots of it, I have been using snuff for over 10 years and even I still get it wrong sometimes. Ozona snuffs are great for beginners as they are good and moist so don't hit the back of your throat. If you got any fruity toques start with those, Blueberry is my fav. To start with just get a bit on your finger, just poke the snuff and some will stick there, then lightly breath in with your finger under your nose, work your way up to pinches, your breathing needs to be very light, don't hold the snuff too close to your nose. Another tip (one I use all the time) take a pinch and make sure you have bits on both your index and thumb, then put them up to both your nostrils at the same time so when you breath in it creates almost a vacuum, then just pull your fingers away whilst breathing in and the snuff will be in your nose. You can kink your nose whilst sniffing too, works well on dry and fine snuffs.

Nicotine hits vary, toques other than the quit are light on nicotine, nice in between snus snuffs, different ones hit differently, you just need to try different ones.

      I got:

Absinthe, Champagne, Lime Toast, Lavender, Natural Toast, Original, Quit, Rose, Spanish Gem, Whisky & Honey

Not a big fruity flavor kind of person with snus, so I figured I wouldn't be with snuff either.

This stuff makes me feel almost drunk. haha. Of course I've used a good chunk out of the tin in just one day. It's the only way I can feel anything...

I found that taking any on my fingers, or pinching it caused too much of a mess, so I've been taking slivers of paper, and "cutting" it up a little bit (seems like it's hard packed in this little tin) and scooping a bit out on the paper and taking it that way. Seems easier and is definitely less messy/wasteful.

What would you suggest I try? I don't know where else to buy snuff, anyway, although I'd like to try more for sure. I think I'll get the hang of it.

If you are snusing and following up with snuff you are just adding to the nicotine already in your system. Go a bit without snus and try some snuff when you want a snus. Much better that way.

Like Skell mentioned it just takes a lot of practice. What works for me is taking a pinch and placing the finger and thumb tip just inside the nose and sniff very lightly while rubbing thumb and finger together. This seems to interrupt some of the air flow that could send it to the back of your throat. It seems that different things work for different people so if you stick with it and try different methods you should find what works best for you.

If you haven't already, try the Quit after not having any snus for awhile. It's quite powerful stuff, pretty awesome IMO.

Monkey's right. If I haven't used snus or snuff for a while and then use snuff - I get a blast of nicotine across my face and I feel all my muscles go limp for a second. The nicotine feeling doesn't last long, maybe a minute, but you'd be surprised how regular blasts of snuff actually saturate the bloodstream - because - If you then take an Odens Extreme for example, and it doesn't do anything, you know that the snuff has done it's job.

I wouldn't analyse snuff taking too much - just make sure you take plenty in one go and make sure you don't snort or sniff too hard.

Start our with Poschl's Bayern-Prise or Gletscher-Prise... or even better, a Molens snuff. These are very easy to take, are course and not like powder. I always recommend Poschl and Molens to beginners. IMO, Torque is not a beginners snuff. Just my opinion.

check out Mr. Snuff. really great webstore with just about every snuff you could want. Try some German stuff if you need something easier to take. They are much moister than than the Toques.

Those Poschls have great aroma and its true that they're easy to take but they lack nicotine big style.

Try to "smell" the snuff rather than sniff it, as this should help to keep the snuff in the lower part of the nose. McChrystals O&G and Wilsons of Sharrow honey menthol are both pretty forgiving for the new snuffer and allow you to take sufficient to get a blast of vitamin N. Dholakia swiss chocolate is also pretty easy to start with - your nose will adjust to using snuff - If you don't like any of the snuffs you have bought don't dispose of them as when you progress with your snuff taking some that you couldn't enjoy to start with may become a firm favourite a little down the line. Toque whiskey and honey was a killer for me when I started out but now its high on my list of favourite snuffs. Mr Snuff is a good site have used it previously, and I believe that http://snuffstore.co.uk/ also ship to the US again.

                        Enjoy

Edit: Friybourg and Treyer snuffs are also quite good for the newbie - French carotte springs to mind.
