I stopped in a local tobacco shop today to see if they had any European/English snuffs. I picked up some Gawith Apricot, and Wilsons Crumbs of Comfort. Man, these snuffs rock. I had previously gotten some American snuffs, and while the flavor was interesting, they burned like hell fire. I highly recommend you all try some old world snuffs. It's not something I want all the time, but it's great for occasional use :^)

Ive actually been interested in trying nasal snuff and getting one of thsoe bullets for dosage.
But I have never known where to ask how to use it and how much.
Ive read you are suppose to sniff it as opposed to snorting it.
Can someone help me out.
Hows the nic hit, what are the health risks and which brands to try.

Try snuffhouse.org for some forums with good information. I'm really new at nasal snuff, so I don't have much information. When you sniff snuff, the idea is to coat the nasal passages. You don't want it in your sinus', or in the back of your throat.
The nic hit isn't very great. I like it more for the sensory experience than for nicotine addiction. I think there are some heavy hitting snuffs made, but not too many from what I gather.
I think the American snuffs tend to be high in TSNAs. The English/European snuffs are similar to snus I believe. My impression is they're pretty safe to use, but I don't think there's a lot of research on the subject. It's becoming more popular, but it's still a very small niche in tobacco sales.

I bought some Garrett at a liquor store months ago because I was curious....wow, that shit is harsh. Not to mention cumbersome to use due to the fact that it has the consistency of ultra-fine dust. I tried to sniff as light as possible, but it still ended up going way too far up my nose and down the throat. I'd like to try the European brands since I hear they are a little moist and not as fine.
Anyone know if there is a way to make the stuff I have a little more manageable? I actually thought about wetting the tip of my finger, dipping it in the can, and smearing it inside my nostril... :P

You usually just blow your nose when you feel like it; it's an individual preference.
Different snuffs will give you different amounts of drainage: for example, different grinds and mentholated vs. not mentholated.
American snuff is pretty much made for the mouth, even the fine dry ground stuff. In the south, they would take a stick, wet it, dip it in the can, and place it between the cheek and gums.
To do snuff, you take a pinch between thumb and forefinger, hold it up beneath each nostril and sniff a quick gentle sniff. You want it in the front part of the nostrils where most of the mucosa and capillaries are; not in the sinuses or throat. Some people snuff once per hour, others every ten minutes.
I prefer snus, but I do enjoy a good nasal snuff every once in a while.

F-ck it .
I tried it and the first time it was ok, i got a sweet tobacco aroma and a nice lil burn.
Then i noticed i didnt put enough on my hand. So i blew my nose and put about a pea size pile on my hand and gently inhaled.
Thats when my nose felt like it was about to explode and I coughed. One of those coughs that is involantary, it was a refelx cough.
That shit burned my nose so badly i ran to the bathroom and blew my nose.
I placed an order at the snuff store on the snuffhouse website for some of the real deal.
Got some Toque St clements and some other brand that sounded good plus a snuff bullet.
But i can see how this clears up sinus pressure i guess. I can definately breath out of my left nostril alot better than before.
anyways, time for a snus now.

Try just doing a little at a time: several small snuffs instead of big ones. Aim for the front of the nostrils. Bring snuff to nose like you are smelling it and let it draw in. It is much better to use the pinch method because you can aim where the snuff goes. Just stick with it and you'll get better.
As far as nicotine, you'll find english snuffs are pretty much all weak, American snuffs are quite strong, and home-made snuff from American Spirit tobacco = strongest.
I have no clue how snuff taking fell by the wayside. It's my favorite form of tobacco use and I could not have quit (cut down dramatically, at least) smoking without it. The nicotine hits much quicker, exactly the same as a cigarette. Will surely become more popular over the next 20-30 years.

nicotinic acid says:As far as nicotine, you'll find english snuffs are pretty much all weak, American snuffs are quite strong
Which strong American snuffs would you recommend to someone using it to replace heavy smoking? I just got some Toque snuffs, and they taste great but am always looking for more nicotine.

All the American snuffs are pretty damn strong though. Great prices here:

I just bought a bunch of snuffs from Toques. I'll report back after I get them. I'm pretty stoked...This stuff's like crack :^D I can't keep out of the damned snuff tin. Pop in a pris of snus, take a hit of Gawith and it's pure heaven.
Btw, outdoors is the place for snuffing. The natural air seems to really open up the bouquet, and you get surprised by hints of recurring flavor after you thought it had run out :^)
