"For example, Taxi, a very high nicotine-delivery product manufactured by Swedish Match for the South African market, contains low levels of TNSA: NNN, 2.07 μg/g dry wt; and NNK, 0.29 μg/g dry wt (Brunnemann et al., 2004)." - pp81-82

I think the products you are referring to are Toombak and Gutka

Funny, maybe because I'm new (?) to snuffing, I'm not doing it right, but I use maybe 10 small pea sized pinches a day, and I don't feel any urge to blow my nose. I keep a kleenex or paper towel in my pocket since my nose runs a bit, but I just dab or wipe the leakage and let it be. Opinions?

        Same here.

At first i was always blowing my nose because i thought you were suppose too. Then i started blowing a lil blood, you know when you have a cold and blow your nose way too much or dont use kleenex and it gets raw.

So i just started wiping my nose when it runs and giving a good blow before bed.

Theres reall only one way to go wrong with snuff, IMO, and thats snorting it up into your sinuses instead of just sniffing it into your nasal passage.

I still have the occasion hard sniff that lands the snuff in the back of my throat.

I was looking at trying some snuff at one point in time, and then I saw something that kinda corn-fused me...
I read that in the preparation of snuff, it is fermented....I thought that the fermenting (vice pasteurizing) is what causes the higher levels of nitrosamines? Yet, it seems to be everyone's opinion that nasal snuff is perhaps safer than snus? Can someone explain this to me?

I can not explain to you about why levels of TSNAs can be a little higher in snuff than in snus but snuff remains safer.

I can tell you that no matter where you look you are bound to get like 20 different TSNA reports all with different numbers.

Bruton for instance was retested and found to have dramatically lower TSNAs than in the original report, which had it at over 1000!!!, which would also recommend that the other snuffs are a lot lower as well.

According to Roderick from Toque, their TSNA levels are so low that the tests had to be extended for any to even show up.

Just dont use snuff with charred aloe stems and you have nothing to worry about.

Where does one find the ingredients in their snuff? Or do we just avoid the ones that say "NOW WITH 30% MORE CHARRED ALOE STEMS!!!!!" on the lid?

                Just asking...

LOL, i was referencing that with some tribe that uses snuff in africa.

they add charred aloe stems to their nasal snuff and it has been shown that adding the charred aloe is very very bad for you and many in that tribe have developed cancerous lesions of the nose and jaw.

Thats just what ive gathered from some research. But no company adds those(that im aware of).

Haha, gotcha. I felt a little out of the loop on that one, but with the explanation, it makes a LOT more sense.
