Nasal Snuff

So, so....have you tried it yet. Please share.

I have read as much as I can, but still don't feel fully confident that U will know what I am supposed to do with it. I mean, like how much is a standard "dose". I have seen some videos on Youtube, and they seem to be using more than I would think you normally use. I have read a lot of folks talk about "pinching" it, which I suspect will be what I will do, so I guess that should limit the amount I use.

I am glad to know you got yours. I know mine should be here shortly. But each day gets harder and harder as I run to the mailbox hoping to find it, only to walk away empty handed. :cry:

I've done nothing but pinch my snuff. I too have seen some videos on youtube of a certain person taking snuff in what i believe is a Czech bar. I'm pretty sure he uses more snuff in on sitting than I have in the last 3 days or so (I ordered a patrick collilns snuff box from nicotinerush and they included a sample of rooster.) I will admit that I am as new to snuff as I am to snuss so I am most definitely not an authority by any means.

As for dose size, just take a little pinch you can always grab more or put some back. I put my thumb and index finger under each nostril and lightly sniff, the moisture content and coarseness of the tobacco will determine how hard i sniff. I've gotten it down with what I have. The Rooster sample I got is very dry, and very fine, If is sniffed it like I would say one of the much more moist Blueberry menthol that I have, Id be on the floor with my head buzzing.

So far I've tried (of the toque):
***Just first thoughts***

Blueberry Menthol: medium moist and grind. The menthol hits first and fades to reveal a very nice berry scent. I enjoy it very much.

Absinthe: Equally as moist as the Blueberry. Easy to snuff, more forgiving than super dry (toasts or scotches i believe their called) snuffs. Along with the blueberry I could sniff harder and not get a shot of tobacco strait to the back of my skull. A strong anise flavor that was very pleasant.

Whiskey & Honey: I haven't really had a chance to sit down with this one and really give it a shot, In passing yesterday I grabbed a pinch and my first reaction was that the Honey was much more prevalent then the whiskey. I'm sure once i give it time I'll be able to detect more subtleties in snuff. This one was more dry and fine and needed more care when sniffing.

Espresso: Again, Like the Whiskey & Honey, I haven't really given this more than a once over. But I didn't really detect a distinct coffee scent, at least not yet. It was very smooth and a good flavor, just not very strong coffee.

Toffee: Is probably my favorite so far. I love toffee and this has such a great flavor that I even noticed 20 minutes later. Mind you I'm still beginning and my pinches are very small. This one seemed to me, to be somewhat more moist then the espresso and the w&h.

Chocolate: I still haven't tried this as it was very strong with ammonia, I've learned that this is a sign of freshness as ammonia is a byproduct of the production of snuff. I've done some airing of the tins, but haven't had enough time to fully air out the chemical smell.

Since than I've ordered several menthol flavors from nicotinerush, including: McChrystals O&G, Wilson's of Sharrow SP500, W of S Crumbs of Comfort, Poschl's President, and a can of Rooster (an american non mentholated super dry fine, It tastes like tobacco and liquid smoke, it has a real kick and has high nicotine content. Kind of a nice kick first thing in the morning.)

I completely understand the waiting, my first ever snus order (from northerner) shipped 7 days ago and I've been anxiously awaiting it, my mail should be here any minute so I'm pretty excited right now. /fingerscrossed

Edit: Addition, I just checked my mail, and no snus, oh well there's always tomorrow.

I really am glad to have you here. Any questions you have about snus, I am a certified expert. Well, certified something at least.

It sounds like I will be approaching it exactly like you. So far, I have just ordered the toque, and it sounds like you got the three I ordered, toffee, which i can't wait, Whiskey and Honey, and the Expresso. What you said of the Expresso I heard from some other folks as well.

I am grateful to have another snuff newbie here. I am on Snuffhouse too, and have even posted a few times there. but I am just far more comfortable making a fool of myself here.

I think I will wait to order more until I make my next big snus order Feb 1. i have $150 budgeted for that, but will spend less and redirect the rest of that money to a few different places. I want to try out Nocotinerush and a few others. As good as I hear the toque is, this waiting game just sucks, and I here from the horses mouth over at Snuffhouse that most of his packages get held up by customs, so I want to try out some of the American sources as well.

I am really excited about all of this. Both for having so much new to try out (one day, you too will have tried every single snus), but more importantly, my nicotine needs seem to have been amped up lately, and I am looking forward to the hit that I am told snuff will bring me.

I'm also glad I found this site, not only is it full of great people and information, it gives me something to do, I currently work nights and most of my friends work days, so I don't get to spend much time with people. Sounds sad I know. lol. I'll try to keep my posts from now on brief, looking back my first couple of posts were more of short essays. I'm glad that I didn't read anything about Toque orders getting held up by customs, I most likely wouldn't have ordered if i would have known that. But roderick's 5 for the price of 4 on his 25g tins and the free shipping were a big influence on my choice, I couldn't be more happy with decision. Plus it's nice to get things from other countries, Royal Post label, lol (nerd here). I guess i was going into the whole "ordering from other countries" thing knowing that it could be stopped, but I did read somewhere, I think it was an official document, that they usually don't inspect and impose duties on imports in the US unless the value of the product is over $200. A far cry from my £13,95 (I think i typed that correctly) order.

But I understand what you are talking about. I am working through my own issues, divorce was final last summer, still trying to normalize after it. You see how many posts I have here, I am a moderator for a motorcycle forum that I joined within days of coming here a year ago last November. I have almost 6000 posts there, now number 2 all time behind only the owner of that forum.

This really is a nice place to hang out, with some amazingly cool folks, lots of snus (And more and more snuff) knowledge too. So by all means, kick your heals up and hang around.

And oh, I work days, but have this neato job that basically allows me to come back and forth here an d my other forum all day long. So no complaints!! :lol:

OK, so I am a snuff virgin no more. Forgot my work cell at home, so had to ride back in 20 degree weather. But I could see the package in my mailbox from the corner, so I was suddenly very happy I had to go home again.

So brought it to work with me, made my calls I need to, and 5 minutes ago, took my first snuff. My first was maybe a tad too strong of a pull, got a tiny bit in my throat, but not bad. I did sneeze a minute later, but managed to not sneeze through my nose. My 2nd hit REALLY made my head hurt for a moment, like a sudden headache that lasted about 10 seconds. is this normal, does it happen every time?

So now I am just sitting here. tried the toffee. I think my nose is in such a shock, that it's hard to really tell anything yet. Plus, I still really don't know what the right "dose" is?? I just took too small pinches.

But I can feel the nicotine. So I think this is REALLY gonna be good. Just a stronger hit then I can get from snus.

I am excited to be a bloomin newbie again!!!

Congrats sagedil!!! What one did you use first? Which ones did you get altogether? Headache could be because your nose isn't ready for all this new substance/this much nicotine at once. Maybe it's your body's natural reaction telling you "smaller doses". Once you and your head calm down, please post your thouhts.

my mail comes in about an hour hope the snus is there (or my second order from nicotinerush first one came in 3 days, so hopefully by tomorrow at least).

I'm trying the Toffee first, also got the Whiskey-Honey, and the Expresso.

So you are saying that maybe my pinch is too much. I have now done it 4 times (twice in each nostril 2 times). And each time, I get this nasty pain in my head that lasts about 10 seconds, but it is immediate. Not really a pleasant experience and really hope it goes away.

I still need to read a bunch more on snuffhouse, i am gonna search for other newby threads there and see what I can find.

You may be snuffing too hard. You want to coat the inside front of your nose. If it goes to your sinus' or throat, that's too hard.

For me the first couple of hits with a new snuff I use a pinch about the size of a small apple seed. Once I get used to it I can expand to .... well a lot. Toque Pomegranate I can use half the size of a pea pretty easily. About half that for most other snuffs. Sometimes I go back for seconds. The Toque seems to be really easy to take. Dholakia seems to be what I handle the least, very small pinches are almost to much.

lxskllr, I don't think I am pulling too hard, at least not after the first time. At least i don't *think* I am, but will try even a bit less and see if that lessens the headache thing.

I mean I can deal with the watery eyes and other issues. But making my head feel like it wants to explode for 10 seconds isn't really the fun I was hoping for.

Happily, have a Pall mall in right now. Will try again with the snuff a bit later...smaller portion sizes :lol:

And thanks everyone. i know I have snuffhouse if I need, but i am just more comfortable playing the snuff fool here. It really is nice to "need" the forum again. Just been a real long time since I had any snus questions.

You guys are so smart. So I just did another, exact size of an apple seed, very gently, and NO pain in the head. Yay!!! This is MUCH better. :lol: :lol: :lol:

I'm a snuff noob as well. I've been trying it out for about a month. It's great stuff. I've been having trouble making myself go to bed because I can't quit snusing at night. Snuff is perfect for when I feel I need to go to bed soon. I can snuff right before bed instead of staying up another hour with a snus in. Also great for times you want a snus but know you have to eat soon or something. I have a bunch of different snuffs and like them all to some degree. My favorite right now is Molen's Latakia AO 1860 and Molen's Pepermint ...Yum. Snuffing is tricky at first, don't give up, it gets a lot easier. Cheers to snuff and snus.

Sagedil, another trick I use, I try to sniff it into that big cave like area in the front of my nostril. Works for me. Mostly. Just remember , you don't need to snort a line, just a pinch. :lol:
Wilsons Irish High Toast 22 is some really good, fine snuff. I really like after spending a day with it. Again like Dholakia, a little bit is a LOT. Still nothing compares to Toque Pom.

I'm quickly becoming an expert it seems. TBD, thank you for giving me a visual idea of how much to be using, I can play with that from here. So many flavors to try, but I am in NO rush. In some ways, i am sad about how fast I tried various snuses. With snuff, I want to take my sweet time, enjoy what I have, and SLOWLY keep trying more. Maybe keep me interested for the next few years.

Now one thing I am already discovering. I am about as addictive as they come. I have learned to manage this with much of my life. but I already find myself wanting to keep using more snuff. even with a snus in, like every 20 minutes, I want more snuff. I am assuming that is the stronger nicotine hit, I keep wanting more!!

I expect an interesting weekend ahead. will probably open up the Whiskey-Honey and Espresso just to try what is different.
