Full on agreement with the HDT but American dry snuff is not really intended to be used nasally. American dry snuff was historically dipped by women in the south. It's made with alkaline additives that burn the beejeezus out of your nasal passages.

For a while I used it in the traditional manner with a "snuff brush" which is basically a chewed stick of whatever wood you prefer. Try the dry scotch snuff when you want a salty taste or a dry sweet snuff for, yes, a sweet taste.

I used to grind my own snuff from english xxx rope tobacco. The number of x's correspond to the nicotine strength. There was a noticeable difference in the nicotine buzz compared to any dry english snuff or the sorta-moist german types.

I agree to disagree, I use Rooster and the like daily and don't notice a burn greater than any other snuff, just a bigger buzz. The one particularly harsh burning snuff I use is Taxi, a Swedish Match product which is another dual use product. While that one burns I liken it to the burn snus use to give me and find it quite enjoyable myself.

I guess you'd have to try it and decide for yourself if the burn is unpleasant. The nasal use of Scotch is common and quite popular in snuff circles. I've never personally tried using these orally.

I like snuff a lot. There are so many flavors to try. Lately I've been gravitating to the plainer ones. The American Scotches pack a good hit, and have a smokey flavor that satisfies me. It is possible to snuff a good amount without blasting the sinuses. The trick is to not snort, but gently sniff. keep it in the front of the nose. It took me a while to learn, especially with the finer grinds. I can't remember the last head cold since I started snuffing a few years back.
It's fun to make snuff too. I've made several from some natural pipe blends, twists and plugs. Also some outstanding snuff from unflavored Tombac, a Turkish leaf. Added a little brandy to this and it is really good.
All that aside, I still like my snus.
        And my pipe.
As for the Toque snuffs, they ship really, really fresh, to the point of having ferment gas - ammonia, present. IMHO, I enjoy them much more after they settle down a while, so you might want to revisit them.
        Cheers!

This world would be a more interesting place if we stopped thinking either/or. There is a banquet table of products that nicotine lovers can choose from. Why restrict yourself to one? Would you eat the same steak dinner every meal, every day? I wouldn't.

Nasal snuff is a neat dessert form of tobacco. For me, it's not main course. Snus is far more a main course source.

But I like my pipe, too, an occasional cigar, my electronic cigarette all day, Stonewall Java pieces, Oliver Twist and any nasal snuff ground by windmills. I cannot imagine having to choose just one source. Use whatever keeps you from inhaling smoke. That's the only rule.

That's a perfect way of putting it, nasal snuff being more like a dessert. However Grov Black has turned into my dessert nicotine lately, can't believe how this stuff is growing on me.

Having got some free samples from Toque I didn't initially enjoy snuff or get much of a nic hit, but more recently I've been able to take more and it's great.

I'm going to place a proper order for some tins soon, I think it will help me get off the cigs more effectively and inexpensively than chainsnusing.

Try some different brands also. Every company has a house flavor, and Toque's may not immediately agree with you. Here's my top 5 list in no particular order...

                  Toque Whisky and Honey
                  McCrystal's Original & Genuine
                  Bernard Zwiefacher
                  Molen's A/P
                  Bernard Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert

I've been looking at what there is, and there certainly is a lot of choice! More so than snus.

                    This should be fun 8)

Are the non Toque ones you listed all tobacco flavour?

Molen's A/P- Very dark, and coarse. Intensely smoky with a piney scent. A little goes a long way

Bernard Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert-Moist and coarse, fruity, with the scent of maple, vanilla, and raisins.

Oh snuff fascinating stuff. Snus almost kept me off cigs but I went back briefly. Snus & snuff keep me away from them. Flavorwise it's like anything else, you just have to find what you like. My top Toques are; Whiskey & Honey, Original, Pomegranate, Chocolate, and Xmas Pudding. I've also, a fair amount of non-Toque snuff and the collection's growing.

It's exciting just discovering what you like. Part of the fun and along the way you'll probably find a few you don't like. I think the variety of flavors in this world dwarfs what you'll find in the snus world but hey... so what? Have FUN with it. It's great enjoyment.

If it's a nic hit your looking for holnrew, try some of the "American Scotches". They have a good bit of nicotine and a smokey flavor. By smokey, I mean like a lit fireplace or a campfire. But, be aware. They are an extremely fine grind. Almost like talc. You have to sniff very lightly to keep it in the front of your nose.. Takes a bit to master but, very enjoyable once you do!

Forgot to mention this. www.nicotinerush.com offers a "Sampler" pack with "American Scotches". Since they come in 1.15 oz cans normally, they put 1 or 2 grams in a smash box and they give you 6 brands, I think. Great way to try them and, not have a bunch of cans of snuff you may not like laying around. Just a thought.

I'll add a bit to what AirWoodstock said; NicotineRush (Tom) is a great resource. He ships worldwide. The sampler packs are a good way to find what you might like, but there's a great similarity of flavor in the American Sweet and Scotch offerings. Some differences are subtle and some not so but... if you want a GREAT nic hit... I'd suggest Rooster, and one of the best American Sweets is Honey Bee. For a better nic hit in a sweet, I'd go with the WE Garrett Sweet. Rooster alone will blow your head off. It mixes well with other snuffs to tone it down or spice them up.

I'm pretty stoked to try some American snuffs now. I'm really hooked on Toque toffee, peppermint, menthol, and cherry. Now that I'm more experienced with snuff I think I'd be ready to indulge in a bit of Rooster.
