Chocolate is harsh on the nose, and is very easy to throat if extra care is not taken. The scent is alright. I prefer Coke, Peanut Butter, and Toffee.

What happened to Snuffhouse? It looks like the domain expired and someone stole it from Alex. Anyone been in touch with any of the community lately? I'm really sad if that's what happened. It wasn't super active, but it was a very nice, close little community. Hope it gets running again.

I haven't been able to get anything except a white screen over there. I hope it bounces back soon. I miss that place.

I think Suffhouse is very active. It has had some site problems though. I suspect it will be up and running soon.

I'm guessing the database crashed. They should be back up in the next day or so.

Hey guys, I am getting real curious about nasal snuff. I will go off and read the posts, but do you recommend a good starter snuff? Something smooth yet enjoyable?

I have a problem in that I am a recovering heart patient, 53, now in superior health, I quit cigs 3 months ago, after a bypass, and have stayed off cigs with snus. I am a lifelong nicotine user and wish to continue, but am not into it for a rush, just looking to enjoy myself with whatever harm reduction I can find.

The salt in snus is/can be a problem, and I keep my intake down to about 8 reg portions a day. I constantly monitor my blood pressure, and through weight loss and hard exercise have it down nicely. I think that getting some of the nicotine without salt would come in handy in my case, and would be open for guidance. Thanks.

I'd say Gawith Apricot(made by Pöschl) would be a good starter snuff. It's mentholated with a light apricot scent in the background. It seems like everybody(non tobacco enthusiasts) dig it from the start.

Here's my top 5 for someone new that Northerner sells which you could put in with a snus order...

Toque Original- My favorite standard SP snuff. Classic bergamot scent

McCrystal's Medicated(Original & Genuine)- The standard medicated(menthol) snuff. Warmer than many with a complicated scent. Very easy to take.

Wilson's Crumbs of Comfort- A mint snuff that is kind of like menthol, but not. Maybe considered a candy snuff, but is very pleasant.

Toque Whisky/Honey- Not necessarily the easiest to take, but the sweetness should be appealing to the newcomer. You just have to be careful so you aren't too aggressive with the sniffing.

Toque Espresso- Warm and roasty. The coffee scent isn't obvious, but it reminds me of an easy to take HDT. A good snuff to get a feel for something a little "plainer".

                  Edit:
                  My reasons for the selection

I'd recommend either the Gawith Apricot, or really any Pöschl snuff, or something from De Kralingse. The Chococreme snuif is really flavourful, and it's ground coarse, so you'd have to snort pretty hard to get it up it your sinuses, where it would really burn. Not saying it's impossible, but I find it very easy to take. On the downside, it's also very clogging, so two or three good whiffs and you have to blow your nose.

I'd go with the Toque 10 tin sampler for $20 and change plus speedy free shipping. A few that are fairly easy to take are Chocolate,Raspberry,Coke,Espresso.

BTW Snuffhouse was up for a minute or two. I think I broke it again.

Good suggestions so far. I'll second the Toque Original, and Expresso. Natural is pretty good also.
F&T Morlaix & Wilsons Apricot are both nice and easy to take.

My only issue is NOT everyone likes mentholated snuff. And if you don't, you Really won't. So I think someone should try only one mentholated before going ll hog wild getting them. Unless you LIKE giving snuff away for free.

I'm just starting out with the snuff and so far, it has only been a couple of days, I just can't take the mentholated. Don't have too many that I've tried but I find the Toque Cherry Menthol pretty rough, but the togue espresso and whiskey & honey extraordinary.

But I'm still new, only been 4 months for snus and my tastes have changed, so I am reluctant to get away from anything.

Mentholated is just a totally different beast.

On a side note Snuffhouse.org looks to be sorta back up, I checked a few things out and seemed there was a problem with the German webserver that hosts about 700 sites.

For a first-timer, you need mild snuff. And, BTW, I agree on menthol. It's not a total turnoff, but I'd prefer it wasn't in my snuff.

                              1. Dholakia Swiss Chocolate. Easily the best tasting, smoothest snuff I've ever used. But not an all-day snuff.

                              2. Wow Coffee Bite. Yes, I'm a caffeine addict and this offering blows away stuff like Toque Espresso or Coffee. This is like taking ground coffee beans up your nose. Delightful and perfect after meals.

                              3. She! Cherry Menthol. My only menthol and it ain't for women only. Very mild, of course, without an overpowering cherry flavor.

                              4. Dean Swift Inchkenneth. I'm apparently a rare fan of this sandalwood/musk flavored snuff. It remains the only snuff I regularly empty the 5g tin and order again and again. The longest lasting snuff smell I've ever encountered. Stronger than Quit wth Sandalwood. Use it only between meals.

                              5. DeKralingse's Pompadour. The only offering from this fine company that doesn't contain latakia, which I love in my pipe tobacco but find too irritating if directly sniffed into the nose. This is pure clove and tobacco flavor.

I've not been fond of any of the Toque offerings, sorry to say. I've given away most tins I've ordered. Do NOT like Whiskey and Honey. I've tried to like it, over and over, because so many do. But I can't adjust to it.

My main suggestion for you is to take up a pipe. You're the right age and you will enjoy taking smoke in and letting it out. I relax with a pipe three or four times a day. If you go for it, watch out for tongue bite from English blends. Start with Carter Hall burley or order Whiskey Biscuit Gravy from JustforHim.

                              Good luck.

Thanks for that thorough post TB, very valuable information.

Knew I should have ordered Dholakia Swiss Chocolate first.

While not snuff, one thing you mentioned a while back on an e-cig forum, I believe it was you, you have a distinctive writing style....

Oliver Twist Original. These are delicious, albeit too small, but yummy! Also, 1 easy order from Northern.com can fill a lot of needs (just try not to use UPS if possible).

Personally, I have been toying with the pipe issue, but the snuff, snus, my habit of having to try them all and lack of being wealthy has killed that one. Plus it would be an outdoor activity, mosquitoes around here are like blades of grass in number and the smoke part of it all turned off the wife.

                                But there is always tomorrow.
