So I discovered that I am allergic to snuff. 3 weeks in October I was sick with a really really bad cold. Tried snuff against last night, and I wake up with the same symptoms. Nose runs like a spicket, horrible sneezing, etc.

kvlt, sounds like you may be using the wrong brand or technique. Some brands will cause me horrible runs, others not at all. The sneezing may be from to small a pinch.

OR you may be allergic to snuff.....

I get alot of bad reactions from snuff, that actually made me just about quit it outright. I still don't know what it is, menthols, wax, seasons, certain types of snuff, now I think it may be my sniff technique. I tried a little of the WTF snuff in the snus challenge and I was all congested all night, my nose runs like a faucet and stopped up. But I really like snuff though, and I don't want to quit. This is why I actually turned to snus alittle while back as I was not faring well with snuff. But it got better, and I started to do it again. But I still have issues, but not all the time. I am thinking I may try and just ration my snuff use, like only certain days. I want to not snuff at all today. Currently I am thinking Mon, Wed off days, and Friday after dinner, Saturday free, Sunday after lunch, something like that. But it seems if I snuff all day everyday, from a variety of snuffs, I get congested and have nasal leak.

Have you ever done any snuff???

9 months in, and the FUBAR is still too much for me. Ii expect the High Dry Toast will be another one that will really challenge a newbie. I have xero experience with the last.

The Dholakia will be, by far, the easiest snuff for a brand newbie

If you have snuffed American Scotch snuffs, they are similar to the HDT and toast style snuff.

I think about 25 years ago I played around with it as my father bought a can of something and thought it was "dip". I did try to snort it but can't remember what I got out of it though and probably didn't do it right. This stuff was definitely a "dry" powder though so was some kind of American Snuff. Was too engrossed in my copenhagen at the time.

PS: Only reason I ordered some Fubar is because was reading about its strength and figured if anything like the "Sterk/Starks - ES..." in snus, then figure I will appreciate it since this is what I used and still use upon my introduction to snus.

I have xero experience with the last.
 The last one is just a hanky to blow my nose in.

Sigh....what happens when post before my morning coffee.....

LaZeR, no, it is not even close to the difference between sterks and regular snus. The sterk just has more nicotine.

tom502 is correct in that they are similar to American Scotch. Really fine and dry. REALLY hard for someone new to snuff to take without getting way to much in your throat. The reason I pimp Toque so much is most are heaver and MUCH easier to take, so really lend themselves to someone just starting out.

Just know that about both the FUBAR and High dry Toast. Don't let those two ruin what snuff can become for you. I have put the FUBAR away, come back to it every 3 months. And although can do it much, much better now then when I was new, I am still not really a fan as I have just become a fan of taking big hits of snuff, something that can't be done with the Fubar.

Again, the Swiss Chocolate is by far the best candidate for your first real snuff

So the consideration is more implied as to the textures of snuff rather than the strength in assessing whether one is better over the other for a 1st timer? - damn I just confused myself with that sentence.

PS: I just checked my invoice from nicoRush and they've added Rooster as a free sample. Maybe that should be my nEwb tryout snuff?

I wouldn't recommend Rooster as a first snuff...unless you like hopping around like one  It's very fine and dry and could easily go to your throat. Definitely try something a little moister and coarser first.

Look, no matter how much nicotine a snuff has, it will never deal with your nicotine urges the way snus does, or a cigarette. the nicotine is a nice burst, yes, but not really the point.

What makes a snuff 'easier" or 'harder" is how fine and dry it is. American snuffs are very fine and dry, the whole reason don't really care for them. German snuff like Bernard is very heavy and moist, means I can snuff as much as I want with no worry about it going where it shouldn't. Until you have some experience under your belt, until you learn how to control your sniff. the Rooster, the FUBAR, the High dry and Toast will be very, very hard on you

Some folks swear by the American, and yes, a higher nicotine hit. maybe one day I will like t more. but the more snuff I have used, and am about 9 months in, the further in the other direction I have gone

Thanks for the replies sage and everyone. Ok, I will stick with the Dholakia Swiss Chocolate at first or the Toques if they happen to arrive 1st.

If I were to get adventurous with the dryer/finer snuff, would say doing a BB size as opposed to a Pea be a safe enough bet or would that still risk burning my throat & sinuses if I drew it in too fast?
