Have you given any thought to the kit idea? Until it's snus, it's snuff, and you already do that. Sell all the bits, and people can put it together themselves. Might not be for everyone, but it would be useful for Brits, and some might prefer it anyway.

Ok. Need something cleared up. I know snuff is high in TSNA but as the quantity that you take it in is so small it won't cause cancer. Does this mean that we would be sticking high TSNA content in our mouths or are you pasteurising this?

Snuff isn't inherently high TSNA. It depends on the source tobacco, and the processing. I wouldn't suggest using a smoky flue cured tobacco, but snuff can be made from aircured tobacco also. Sell unfinished aircured flour, and people can add the chemicals, and do the baking at home. It would be comparable to making beer at home, but a bit easier. Not as easy as going to a store, but very attainable for an amateur, and it would allow customization of the blend.

I don't think that kind of kit would be a huge seller, but it would serve the enthusiast market, and if things get really bad in the UK, it would be a free pass. PITA or not, home made snus is better than no snus. It's also easy to sell. It doesn't require much in the way of special packaging, or licensing. Of course that's coming from my common sense interpretation of law which may or may not be applicable in the real world. The way I see it, if you're selling tobacco flour, that's just snuff by any definition. If you also make E1520, E501, flavors, and other things available on your site... Well, you can't be responsible for how people put them together :^)

I think this would be a great idea.
True I doubt it would be a huge seller but I am sure enough people would be interested to warrant a try of it.
If the tobacco laws keep getting crazier this may be the future of snus in certain countries.

Snuff is very low in TSNA's. Ours is on average 2.98ppm and an average cigarette is 198ppm.

Not to mention your Blueberry snuff is one of the greatest snuff inventions of all time!

                    Lxskllr,

I have a couple of guys who buy economy bags of Quit (Natural in my mind is better, not as fine) and pasteurise them at home. They just use supermarket food flavourings and they have their own home-made snus.

We are able to offer a coarse snuff in economy bags that would be perfect for home use.

Thanks for the answer - I didn't know it was so low.

No sense in trying to re-invent the wheel. IMHO just sell either loose or portions just like everyone else. Maybe even the slim long portions. I think your idea of being able to fill portions to however big we choose is kinda cool, but in the end it may be more trouble than it's worth. When I'm at home I prefer loose, and when I'm out and about I prefer the quick and easy portions. If I had to fumble around with packet material, possibly with some kit or funnel, spilling snus everywhere, any of that.. I'd just say screw it and toss some loose in my mouth. If all I have is portions and I need some extra nic, I just use 2. If there's one thing I don't like about portions, it's paying the same price for 24g of portions as ~50g of loose. If anything I'd say just up the weight of snus in portion tins and you'd have the edge on all the other manufacturers.

                        just my 2 cents

I think the reason Roderick was asking is because it is illegal to sell snus within the EU - but perfectly legal to sell nasal snuff which is essentially the same thing if you add water and a few flavourings. In fact there isn't even any tobacco tax on snuff in the UK.

As for a solution - despite looking quite hard the only thing that sort of fits the bill is the Portionspasars made by Prillan.

                          Cheers
