    Nasal Irrigation

I used to smoke 2 packs of Parliament Full Flavor a day. I quit cold turkey for a long time, but I would constantly relapse and purchase cigarettes. I didn't like that, which is why I originally started using snus; With snus I have no desire to smoke (even when drinking, which is originally caused my relapses.

When I originally quit, I was plagued by disgustingly thick post nasal drip, that I would constantly swallow when I couldn't spit it out (in class at school and the likes) It would cause me to vomit. It never went away. I had been cigarette free more or less for a very long time, but the post nasal drip never cleared up. It was really horrible, so I went to the doctor.

The allergist recommended doing nasal irrigation twice a day. This is what I use: http://www.neilmed.com/usa/sinusrinse.php. It is amazing. It's safe, and it has REALLY helped with all my sinus issues since quitting smoking. I just wanted to point this out for anyone who is recently quitting cigarettes with snus and who may be running into this problem.

    Man, I am long winded.

Ive used nasal rinsing for a few years. You can a kit at walgreens or similar. It is not unpleasant and really helps get rid of colds and has helped with my sinus problems.

The nelimed brand is great or you can just get the walgreens generic.

        YES!!

Everyone please run out to Walgreens and buy as much of this stuff as you can find. While you are there please feel free to spend all your $ at Walgreens.

patiently waits for my Walgreens stock to triple........... 8)

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Water cupped in my hand and huffed up my nose seems to work well for me.
If I feel like adding some salt to the equation then I use some non-iodized.

I don't think that is as effective as using something that more or less forces it through your sinus and out the other nostril. This is more of constant stream, and it goes out one nostril and out the back of your throat (where the post nasal drip comes from, which I guess is why it helped me)

I'm cheap though, I wouldn't have bought it if I wasnt given the thing by the doctor

Seeing this reminds me of all the stuff I've heard about neti pots and how they work miracles. This site sells neti pots... *wonders whether to get a neti pot or the stuff you use*

I've had really crappy, thick post nasal drip forever, and it sucks. Especially since I'm rude and unlady-like and usually just snort it up loudly and swallow, much to the disgust of others. Methinks something that would fix that up for me would be GREAT. I don't think I'd know how to react to having no post nasal drip, though. It's like...part of me...gross.

              *snooooooorts*

Thanks for the info. Now I recall that someone I know used a neti pot and did this after having sinus surgery.

The nelimed kind is like a nelipot except it has a container that doesnt require you to tilt your head as much and you can control the stream by squeezing.

Sinus rinse is great when you do yard work if the dust gives you headaches. I learned about it after my second sinus surgery and have used it every since. No sinus problems at all any more

The booze in the sinuses was not a great idea.

...Y'know, since I started using nasal snuff (2 days ago), I've found a new joy in picking out crusty, black, tobacco-stained boogers. 'Tis fun, and everyone should do it, so that I'm not the only gross person here :P

I think that the sinus wash bottle is better than a pot, because a pot only has the force of gravity, where with the bottle one can control the pressure better, which I think can make a difference.
