    Nasal snuff questions

I found a local place that sells it. I would like to try it..

How much nicotine does snuff have? Compared to Snus or a cigarette?

How many times a day do you use it? I typically smoked a pack a day until I started using Snus portions about 10 or so a day... How much snuff would be appropriate for me?

Do you let it stay in the nose forever, or must you blow it out eventully?

What are the TSNA levels in snuff?

I cannot answer the first 2 questions as my experience is extremely limited (1 week).I blow my nose whenever I feel like I need to.Some of the snuff I got makes my nose run, which makes me wanna blow just to get all the snot out.Others dry me up.Either way, just blow your nose when you want,as far as I can tell there's no "right" way.You will probably be more preoccupied with getting your technique down as far as actually sniffing the stuff. After a week or so I pretty much got it down. And for your last question I ripped this quote straight from Roderick Lawrie,CEO of Toque Snuff:
"the amount of TSNA in your average American cigarette is 504.58 and the average TSNA in Toque snuff is 2.23".

PS- snuffhouse.org is a great site to learn about snuff

Some days i may do it 30 times, some days i may just do it 3 - 4. Depends on my mood, what I am doing, and hat I am sing that day.

I never have to blow it out. I do make sure i clean each morning, use Ccean nasal saline spray ever couple of weeks if feel I need it.

Snuff will NOT replace nicotine the way a cigarette or snus will. It is a different feeling, one i like a lot. But it s a bump above whatever the snus has me at.

What is available is probably American snuff. Good, but often REALLY hard for a newbie. Reason I love and pimp as much as I do for Toque is I find it is an extremely accessible snuff for a beginner.

Also see the post on nasal snuff at the very top of te page.

To me, snuff is much weaker in the nicotine department than snus or cigarettes. It's pleasant, but you're not going to get the same feeling that Odens ES will give you. I take maybe 10-20 bumps a day, but 8.75 gram tins will last me forever. It's a pretty cheap habit. I don't know specifically about the TSNAs, but I seem to recall a post that listed two American snuffs as fairly low.

If they're American snuffs, you may want to be a bit careful. I've heard they can be pretty dry, and finely ground, so until you get used to how softly you need to sniff, it can feel like you blew your brains out. You might want to try to find some Toque, or Pöschl products first. I find these pretty easy to take.

          TheOneandOnly,

To me snuff provides a nice bump and accentuates my snus but in no way replaces it. I do tend to blow my nose after a few minuets and I use a saline spray (like oceans-but the generic brand) every evening before I go to bed. But it's really a matter of preference and trial and error.

I think it was lxskllr who said snuff is like his personal incense. That’s a great analogy and one that has stuck with me.

I too started with American snuff (and I still love it) but just know it’s a hard place to begin. If you are going to go down the American road first, I recommend starting with a Sweet snuff (American snuff comes in sweet and plain. The plain tends to burn more and be harsher). Tube Rose is an excellent sweet and has a very nice “out door just after it has rained” kind of smell. Butter Cup is also a nice sweet as is Honey Bee. If you want to grab a tin of plain, Rail Road Mills Plain is nice and I actually find Rooster to be less scary than everyone seems to make it.

Finally, I went back and pulled something from one of my past posts that may be helpful. Here it is

I too started with American snuff. However there is a wide world of snuff out there. I would recommend you try some of the other varieties.

          1. Whisky and Honey (made by Toque) is what they call a toast. Toasts are similar to American snuff in that they are dry and finely ground. However, toasts seem to have less burn and more of a toasted nutty taste that I love. Whiskey and Honey is my go to snuff.
          2. Next is an SP snuff. SP stands for Spanish and tends to be flavored with citrus. Toque original is a great example of an SP
          3. Next are the floral or perfumed Snuffs (more typical of the French influence). Fribourg & Treyer Kendal Brown is a good representative and is growing on me with every use.
          4. Next are the dessert snuffs. These tend to be sweeter and flavored with everything from mint to chocolate to coffee. Wilsons Lemon Grove is a great snuff under this category. It is not overly sweet, has a rich tobacco flavor and is #2 on my go to list.
          5. Finally there are medicated snuffs these are snuffs that use menthol in their flavoring. Packard’s Club Snuff is a wonderful example and very very easy to take.
          Hope this helps

I don't use Snuff for the nicotine, it does nothing for me in that aspect. I use Snuff because I find it to be relaxing, uplifting, and a great compliment with Snus. I haven't tried Toque so I can't say if it's good or not, I do know it is highly recommended here and other places though. If you do get into Snuff go slow and easy, it does take getting used to. I would recommend Wilsons of Sharrow snuff in Strawberry and Apricot, especially the Apricot, it is easy to take and feels absolutely wonderful.
