I got my shipment of new to me Toques, and I'll post my first impressions. These are subject to change of course, as it's hard to judge a snuff on the first try, but here we go...
Lavender- Very nice. I've always like lavender scent, and as is usual for Toque, the scent is right on. Will buy again.
Violet- I'm not sure what violet smells like, so I can't vouch for the accuracy, but I find this a bit strong, and almost soapy scented. I'll need to spend more time with this, and hopefully the scent will naturally reduce, or perhaps I'll blend it down to mellow it a bit.
Spanish Gem- This is very nice, and may possibly replace my current sweet favorite, Whisky/Honey. I do have to say I'm disappointed. I had some Spanish Jewel(the inspiration for this), and it's a whole different beast. The original perhaps doesn't have mass appeal, but it was a one of a kind. It was a powerful snuff, that smelled kind of like sweaty feet :^D Believe me, it's much better than the description would indicate. In any case, the Toque version will definitely be a rebuy for me, delicious...
Cheese and Bacon- I don't get much bacon, and it has a curious sweetness to it. It starts off buttery, and finishes as a mellow cheese. I love it, and this'll be staple for me.
Lime Toast- This one's a little too much. It comes off kind of dish detergenty. I may like it better as it mellows, but right now, not so much.
Grapefruit- It's grapefruit! Not much to say about this. The typical Toque true scent. I enjoy it. It's like an SP with a twist. Will buy again, but not regularly.
Natural Toast- Too early for this one. It still has some ammonia, so the scent isn't coming through as it should. This one has potential, and I think it'll be a solid competitor for the Wilson's and F&T offerings.
Berwick Brown- This is another that has a bit of ammonia. I /think/ this may be more a mellow SP than Samuel Gawith is, but I'll have to revist this. The nose feel's great, and it has potential.
SP Extra- Ah, SP Extra. I saved the best for last. This snuff's amazing. It's peppery, with some evergreen notes(I think that's just strong bergamot), and very easy to take. Soft in the nose, and the scent's unbeatable. This is similar to Samuel Gawiths SP No1 High Mill, the SG is ground a bit finer though. This is a must try for any fans of the SP style. This is a nice accompaniment for Toque Original which is a heavier, darker SP.
For Roderick...
If you read this... Where's your evergreen snuff? Juniper/pine/spruce would be a great scent for Xmas, and I think it would be fairly easy using natural ingredients. I'd love to have an evergreen scented snuff ;^)
