After giving this a lot of thought, and realizing that no one really gives a hoot, I still feel compelled to pass on the one most important empirical lesson I have learned from my modestly short snuffing experiance.
You really need to develop more than one snuffing technique!!!! Or more specifically, you need to adjust whatever technique you use to the snuff at hand.
I was thinking about the bump of snuff on the back of Sages hand in one of his posts, and kept thinking that that bump would kill me! Here is the thing, the right snuff, say a F&T Old Paris, yea I could do a big bump of that!
But HDT, Fubar, try a big bump of that and your gonna see Jesus! I use a pinch method with these, take a pinch and them meter it out by rubbing the thumb and finger together, while concentrating on breath control. I can sniff any thing but Dholakia white this way. I just react with my fingers to what my nose is telling me, slow down or keep going. Second nature to me.
Placing a bump on the web of your hand, or back, or where ever, calls for a milder snuff, exquisite control, or just luck, as far as the finer drier snuffs are concerned.
Using a bullet is just a matter of having the right bullet, as far a chamber size, and air bleed, to match the snuff. Good luck finding a proper Rooster bullet, although there are some tough basterds that can take it, I cannot.
I use several techniques, and always start conservatively with any new snuff. Taking too much of any snuff too deep, will really ruin the experience IMHO.
If I could pass any thing of wisdom on to a new snuffer I would implore you to master your technique, and develop more than one. Noting which one to use will come naturally. How many people would snuff more if they only could master the sniff.
