    newbie snuff questions

Hi, Ive never tried nasal snuff but have been a long time smoker. I wanted to try snuff to see if i like it. My main question is, if i grind up tobacco from a regular cigarette, will i get an actual idea of what using snuff would be like? Or would it be significantly different from store bought brands and not resemble the actual snuff experience? Hopefully someone who has made snuff from cigarette tobacco can help me out. I really just want to give snuff a try before i go out and start buying something i may or may not like. thanks in advance for reading/replying to my post

    Hi, welcome.
Hmm, I do not think a ground cigg would be like snuff. It might not be bad though, I never tried it, though I have read of people using cigars.

The only way to know, is to try some. I'd recommend a local cigar and tobacco shop, and see if they have some.

Many local groceries will have the Scotch snuffs, and while these have their fans for nose use, I think they are different than proper nasal snuffs, made in Europe and India.

There are so many types and varieties, one just has to try them oneself.

      Hiya, welcome to SnusOn :^)

You could grind cigarette tobacco to make snuff, but it would only give you a very cursory glimpse of the snuff world. It would be like making jailhouse wine to decide if you want to explore wine further. The jailhouse wine may taste ok, but it doesn't come close to full experience of all the different varieties and styles available which are made by pros.

      Edit:
In case I wasn't clear, I'd suggest a small order of a few different types to see whether or not you'd like snuff. It's a cheap gamble in the grand scheme of things, and will give you a better idea if you want to pursue it further.

If you want to "replace cigarettes", more people have done this with snus, than nasal snuff.

i have thought about using snus and will probably try both. snuff appeals more to me because if i am correct snus (I'm new to both so I'm not sure) does cause teeth to yellow and carries, though less then traditional cigarettes, risk of oral cancer. I am still in the information gathering process and could have my facts confused and corrections would be welcomed.

There's very little evidence of oral cancer with snus. It can give you yellow teeth, but I haven't had any issues in that regard. Everybody's different though. In any case, snus and snuff are exponentially better for you than cigarettes. If you're concerned about health, just about any tobacco product that doesn't require lighting will be the way to go.

                Absolutely and well said lxskllr!

sk7418, I almost got off of smoking using electronic cigarettes.
                Almost

Started using snus and not a smoke since then. Swedish snus in portions is what I use, doesn't stain the teeth or cause the need to spit at all.

I've no doubt there are folks who have successfully stopped smoking with snuff alone but absolutely look into snus as an alternative. For me the snus worked extremely well, allows me to use snuff as a source of pleasure.

                Luck to ya!

OTD....I DID get off cigaretts using e-cigs.(as you well know..LOL).What was an added bonus was finding out about snus and snuff...I look at both of those products as "insurance"(or is that assurance)That I will stay the course. It will be 1 year for me this time tommorrow, that I last indulged in a "Stinky Stick". I never thought I had a chance of going the distance! Show's how smart I am!! The Wiz!
