Yeah, I second what the guy from Kihei says, sniff lightly so that the snuff stays in your nostrils. You don't want to dust your frontal lobe with the stuff, and you definitely don't want it dripping down into your throat through your sinus passages. It's even more important to sniff lightly with the dry, fine;y ground types, like the American ones above. The Pöschl ones you can suck on hard as you like, they are coarse enough to not go very far.

Years ago I tried it and notice that find particulants get into the lungs.

I use nasal snuff very rarely, only when I have appetite for something different. It keeps me (as an ex-smoker, who still has some RYO-cigarette-tobacco left, probably totally dried out) from rolling a cigarette.
Nasal snuff has comparatively little nicotine (due to the small amounts of tobacco, that can be snorted), thus it is more or less unusable for a nicotine addict, but it is a nice alternation.
I recommend McChrystal's S'NUFF Smokers' Blend (made in the U.K., with a very nice bergamot flavor, quite similar to some snus-brands) and Bernard Brasil Feinst (a traditional brand from Germany with a cigar-like tobacco-flavor).

        Cheers!
